Dumb question but I haven't tried on my M1 Mini, is this still true? NI hasn't updated their M1 compatibility page since February and the page states this:

"From January 12th, 2021, we’re enabling the installation of NI products on computers with Apple Silicon processors. With the exception of MASSIVE X, all of our products can be activated, installed and updated using Native Access (version 1.13.2 and later), which will run on the latest generation of Mac computers via Apple’s automatic translation environment Rosetta 2."

Is this still the case?

Post

It all starts to be a little bit ridiculous.
After 7 months after release of Apple M1 computers, we are still awaiting for promised update for Massive X for Apple M1.
WTF?!
I have never complained about NI, but enough is enough… what a joke…

It can't run on M1 CPU's, because those don't have the CPU extension required to run Massive X.

It runs on Mac's running Big Sur on Intel CPU's, but not on M1's.

They're working on it though, so, it's only a matter of time. Considering how long it takes, I imagine that it's quite a lot of work.

Frankly, you better curse Apple that they're so bleeding edge that they change their processor architecture every 10 years. THAT is the ridiculous thing, if you ask me.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not against technical progress, if it makes sense. With emphasis on the last part of that sentence. M1 is only there so that Apple can manufacture machines which are passively cooled, and run 16 hours on battery. That's the only reason really. The CPU is as powerful as a entry level to mid tier desktop CPU. Optimized for low energy consumption, not for performance (like all the mobile CPU's or SoC's).

There, I said it. I know some people will throw crumbs of shit at me again, for speaking out the truth.

As I noted myself. Thats the funny thing about being an adult and being responsible, one can admit to perhaps making a mistake.

The highest form of knowledge is empathy, for it requires us to suspend our egos and live in another's world. It requires profound, purpose‐larger‐than‐the‐self kind of understanding.

The general consensus is that the M1 is a beast.

Yeah, Apple comes out with the cheaper AND better performing processor with no noise and much less heat → let’s blame Apple.

Better than what? As I mentioned, a M1 is on the level of a low to mid tier desktop CPU. "No noise and much less heat". Yes. Naturally, because, that's what mobile CPU's or SoC's are designed for.

Arguably adults are usually as bad as kids at this but that is a completely different discussion :hihi:

While I agree, I'm sure it's just a matter of time for Apple to come with a CPU powerful enough to defy higher end x86 cores. So I think preparing for M1 (and what is to come) is a necessity for any stablished developer.

Thanks for the explanation. Hopefully the M1 update will be sooner rather than later but my main machine is an i9-based iMac so for me personally they have all the time in the world

It's been 15 years. It isn't ridiculous. PowerPC was 12 years. Unfortunately it's hard for large manufacturers to keep up with large software catalogs, moreso when you're doing DSP-type work like music software. And for most people it's irrelevant because Apple did a great job with Rosetta and now Rosetta 2 (which in many cases runs software as fast or faster than the native platform).

Why would anyone blame apple????

Valhalla, Synapse Audio XFER and plenty of other companies all released compatibility fairly quickly. The fact that NI can't do that seems more like an NI problem than an Apple problem. It is the responsibility of the company to stay up to date I think.

Izotope is the same problem not updating to M1. You think that merger is going to make anything better? I think not LMAO

Post

The question is how much use is it to rant all day about it? It won't make them update the plugin any faster.

Maybe that's easily said for me, of course, using an OS which isn't bleeding edge of technology, and needs to change its system archtecture every 15 years.

Yes, can't help but do with a bit of spitefulness. ;)

is this the thread for pointless arguing?
