It looks really interesting , but at $75 going up higher, I can't see it catching on. Trash2 is pretty damn hard to beat.

Hey!

I didn't realize that Trash could do that.

I just took a look, and I don't think Trash lets you choose separate algorithms for the different polarities, manipulate where the crossover point is, or how the two polarities are blended? For Rift, this really is a focal point that allows you to create some pretty amazing movement when combined with the modulation, at least imo :)

But Trash 3 does not seem to be on the radar. And now Rift has come along with some nice features. I'll keep checking out videos--I really want to determine if I would appreciate its features over what I have now (Shaperbox, Shade and a lot of saturation and distortion plugins).
Hey, thanks for checking it out!

We'll be posting more videos that explore the features in the coming weeks :D

Just off the top of my head, a few things that I think sets Rift apart are the "musical" tuning effects, MIDI tracking, custom distortion + filter types, and the randomization features.

If you have any questions, let me know!

Really interesting. I'm "demoing" it now. Could be worth it. Has some very unique features and is quite a bit of fun. Edit: Really nice (and plentiful) presets...

Very interesting tool, will continue to explore !
Not sure if it will "catch on" but i can certainly use it :D .

My only regret as of now : the attack / release of the follower not going below 5 ms.

I usually like the digital artefacts of lower settings when modulating filters. Since this thing can really get noisy anyway, it would not feel out of place to have those lower settings if technically possible.

must say I am tempted. I have been going over Trash2 and even tho Trash has a great sound and capabilities it is a long way from a modern gui with good usability - and Rift has all that for sure. Rift seems extremely well though out. Rift also has those differences Ben from Minimal has pointed out. Things I still do not know about Rift - will license transfers be allowed, when does the intro offer end, how do midi learn / control work for modulating parameters with controllers or curves in the DAW?

the ish sounds very flipping nice in the demos. This is one that interests me, but i'm going to wait and see if it goes on sale once in a while first i think. it's my kind of effect, but i have so much rn tbh.

I spoke with Nate from MA and they said that they don't allow license transfer.

thanks - that makes it way less attractive to me at that price.

#NFR = #NOSALE for me.

I just lost interest in Rift ... :|

Ok, I'm taking a chance - I bought Rift, and will be trying out. Just FYI, the FAQ says that refunds take 2 to 4 weeks to process, so, that's another "do not like" checkbox.

Also, after you activate the plugin, if you click on the person/account icon, it shows your info, and has a "Log Out" button. Clicking that appears to be essentially the same thing as deactivating the plugin. So, if you click that, in order to use the plugin you have to log in again. However, once logged in/activated again, it does not appear to need an internet connection.

I'd like some clarification from Minimal Audio here - what is the function of the "Log out" button - to deactivate? Anything else we need to know about that? If that's the function of the Log Out button, perhaps it should be labeled "deactivate"... I don't know... but with the label "Log out" and the fact that the plugin then becomes disabled, it's sort of misleading.

Personally, I'm not a fan of C/R copy protection - always preferring a serial number system. But I'll put up with C/R if the plugin is worth it. To note, I personally do not buy software that requires physical dongles, or protection methods like Code Meter - just my personal preference.

I'll play this weekend with Rift, and decide if I'm keeping. So far, initial noodling - I like it a lot. And for $75, NFR doesn't bother me personally, but I can see how it would for others. At full price of $129, NFR 'tastes' different tho... so I would be hesitant there.

We'll see....

Normally, I would find Rift very intriguing, but the negatives (price, license, alternatives) are starting to seriously add up.

Post

I have chipped in with some negatives but if I did not have Trash2 and other bits and pieces I would still consider Rift - it is very well designed with a great set of usable parameters. Even with all the negatives, I might get it once I hear back about midi learn and the intro offer period.
Basically I dont want to put people off trying Rift and I look forward to seeing what else Minimal Audio come up with given how great the design and capabilities of Rift are.

It does look a very interesting plugin but you seem to be avoiding the points people have made, $75 is simply a very high price for a new plugin, and when that offer ends its going to $129 , which is absurd tbh. And now it appears you are selling a NFR plugin, that's going to put so many people off. Maybe you need to revise your pricing and license transfer policy.
