Hi all.

I used these two sites as a quick rundown of what services in windows 10 to shut down. It's quite a bit faster. Some things, like the windows frame service and printer services you may want to keep. I noticed I am faster right after doing so.

You can always turn them back on just keep a list.

Integrated radeon laptop drivers legacy fix

Here's a better driver for those who have the built in Radeon chip in their laptop.
Mine's r5, nothing to brag about. Still looking for a light overclocking mechanism; but this driver has everything else and My video drivers have substantially improved in fps vs the adrenaline drivers and My system no longer feels bottlenecked.

It was a hard driver to find, works with most services turned off furthermore.

Though on My first experience, I found the above driver ideal; windows 10 proceeded to update My driver for Me, and the result was not ideal, I'd then lost My ability to use a 1920 by 1080 resolution in My laptop. So I used the DDU software to get rid of the driver once again.

After re-installing the radeon catalyst 15.7.1 drivers I'd noticed instead of getting the full control panel application; it was replaced by a dumbed down one with very few options. It was very frustrating.

In hopes that I might find a better, slightly older driver I dug a bit deeper and I came across a slightly older beta driver that in all respects is resulting in snappy behavior from My windows 10 64 bit os on My 17.3" 17-ca0xxx HP laptop with 3.1 ghz. I updated the above post regarding the driver, as I'd run into problems with the driver working as advertised on My laptop. You may have better luck with the beta driver url I added. So far so good on My machine and I did not need to use ddu, nor run the installer with administrator privileges either.

Did you give W10 debloater a go as well? It helped me. And if nothing else, it speeds up my navigating through the menus without all the useless pre-installed junk

Also, you can use CCleaner or Defraggler if you use HDD. Both gave me some improvement on windows 10 load time.

I choose puran or drive defrag ultimate made by auslogics. I noticed a significant speed boost with puran but I am unsure if it is equipped with measures for ssd, and if it will selectively apply the right effect. I bought the ultimate, but realized there is an older version by auslogics that includes the ssd optimization in a free version also, but I like to show My support, even if, after a year I'll probably roll back to a free version if it stops working. I'm fair, but cheap.

I stopped using ccleaner because it was less stable after piriform was bought out. What's more, I had to read every entry it would delete, quite often it would delete necessary driver registry entries if I were let it run unchallenged.

I've since moved to Privazer for registry tweaking, so far so good, nothing broken yet.

No, within the auslogics products there is something that they boast takes trim to a new level, specially designed for ssd. But I guess you figured I knew that, and wanted to say hello, lol.

Thanks for sharing this - I just noted this down in my notebook yesterday to try find out what services I could stop with Windows10 - I seem to have lots that all take up a reasonable amount of CPU and RAM. Appreciate the share!

I used to shut down some Windows services as well, mostly on Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8. Stopped doing that really. The effect is really, really minimal, if even measurable.

It might have a bit more effect with real time audio applications, but, for general use, it's pretty useless IMO.

Frankly, I think most of the stuff people do on Windows is placebo.

it can be harmful ultimately I think.

If you want the lower DPC latency as possible, the less stuff running in the
background better it will be, it is mensurable with https://resplendence.com/latencymon
IF it will make a difference for the whole system performance, YMWV.
Personally I prefer to disable all that is possible, I use NTlite to create a castrated
Windows installation + lots of tweaks...

Exactly.

What I always (unscientifically) measured were improvements in the < 1% range. Not worth the hassle, IMO.

Regarding the DPC latency: Fair enough. I ran Latencymon a few times, and, even without any tweaks, it's fine.

Well a Pictus doing it is one thing, looks scientific, particularly the tweaks from the linked topic, someone like me doing it is another story
