Every 10 seconds a noise burst is totally ridiculous
We want to demo it properly

A few quick points of criticism
The fm index is way to low
And also playing a 1:1 ratio mod---carrier ..paying a 'E' in lower octaves brings ups a nasty noise ,
This should make sense if it's replicateing the original dx7 look up table sines waves , but not on one particulator note
Also ,option tot turn off (time info ) pop-ups while editing the envelope ( this slows down the gui process while triggering it from a pc keyboard in renoise )
And , thuis could be user error , but I am unable to play true legato ( sewt voices to one ) and env to first , yet there are always two voices pwhen playing legato

Didn't know logging in got rid of noise burst !! Will rety
Watch some presets volume all over the place - there is a PAD that is hugely higher in volume/gain - scared the life out of me (and my speakers !) - wasn't a great start to my demoing

Great to see user samples as modulators , not to so great that these can't be filtered before going into other operator's .
Just a simple hp/lp filter would be great.
This would bring F'em into yamaha tg/sy77 territory ( sort off)

Also noticed a bug , a long attack phase for operator 8 , all of a sudden became a hold phase with no gradual rise whatsoever ( didn't touch any of the other stages and upper )
This has happened two times ( operators are routed directly to output ) , edit happens wih all operators but the bug is difficult to replicate
Anyway , it seems they released it a bit to soon , and I don't feel like beta testing

I doubt that. SY77/TG77/SY99 have up to four elements, and each could be PCM (sample player) or FM. The output of a PCM (sample) could be used as a modulator, but that was just a detail in the whole synth engine.gentleclockdivider wrote: Mon May 31, 2021 2:52 pm This would bring F'em into yamaha tg/sy77 territory ( sort off)
AFAIK, this is a pure FM synth, and only a single element, right?

I am not as familiar with SY-77 and it’s elements, but I know F’.em has 4 layers.

It has four layers; each layer can combine samples and 'normal' FM, so one layer should be able to approximate SY77 type sounds that used a PCM element and an FM element. With four layers, you could do the equivalent of four PCM elements and four FM elements. Maybe never 1:1 copies, but there seems to be a lot of potential. I'll know more after I try the demo.fmr wrote: Mon May 31, 2021 6:33 pmI doubt that. SY77/TG77/SY99 have up to four elements, and each could be PCM (sample player) or FM. Edit: One limitation is that the filters can't be patched into any location; they are at the end of the signal chain. In the SY series, each element has its own filters. It would be great if the first sample operator (the one that can modulate the others) had its own filter.

I said sort off into tg/sy 77 teritory
The yamaha tg/sy has filters for the pcm engine , and it can also use the total output of the FM engine as a modulator itself for feedback mayhem .
Something few people are aware of.
Anyway , the envelope bug is killing it for me , otherwise F-em is a damn fine fm synth

Bugs are normal for new release Tracktion software. But they will fix them eventually!gentleclockdivider wrote: Mon May 31, 2021 7:45 pm Anyway , the envelope bug is killing it for me , otherwise F-em is a damn fine fm synth

Another thing I recently found out about the SY 77/99 is that user algorithms were possible, with external software that is hard to find. The instruments routing even without that is still beyond Yamaha's other FM synths.gentleclockdivider wrote: Mon May 31, 2021 7:45 pm I said sort off into tg/sy 77 teritory

As far as F'em goes, I've got the plugin installed okay, but I can't get the content downloaded. The Tracktion download manager gets it partially downloaded, then says there was a problem. But it doesn't say what the problem is. I'll try again tomorrow night.
