I should really check this particular forum more often.
All of this sounds great.
You can never and I mean NEVER have enough Orchestral soundsets.
I've got some downloading to do when I get home.
Caleb.

well I downloaded the SJ soundfont, but for some reason whenever I load patch 91 (strings2) it crashes FLstudio..... what would cause that? insufficient memory?

Don’t know what would cause it – I checked it in FL and it does crash with the soundfont player – so I let FL know with a link to this thread – no doubt they will look at it and fix anything that needs fixing.Jbravo wrote:well I downloaded the SJ soundfont, but for some reason whenever I load patch 91 (strings2) it crashes FLstudio..... what would cause that? insufficient memory?

Yep! Works fine in sfz and sfz+ouroboros wrote:woah. tried it in fruity soundfont player, same thing. :O)Loaded it up in SFZ (the free one) and it was fine. weird.
Two very good sound font players – probably the best on the market at this time – even the free one is above and beyond many in quality.
The sfz public beta ran for some time before final release – in this time René made sure that all of the sound fonts that presented any kind of problem – he found a solution and implemented it.
The sfz thread

Also the infinite sound font list in the rgc forum is worth a good hunt around too, some pretty cool sound font links in there.

I had a fiddle with the FL player and the only way to get the sound font to play, is to split the offending bank out, something like extranslator is pretty good for things like that, and the offending bank on its own saved as an instrument does not crash the FL SF player.
Still for less hassle I think the rgc sfz player is the one to use – plus can play just about any size of sound font due to the different methods for playing – either direct from disk or if the font is smaller and ya have lots of memory, play from that.

I have this and find it quite useful along with some other free fonts.
I wonder though about copyright issues.
How can we know if a free soundfont is truly copyright free or that the developer has given the OK to use the font commercially?
Or, is this a real problem. I know you can get in trouble by sampling another persons work, but do sample developers chase down possible copyright violations?
Not that I want to knowingly violate copyright. I respect the work that people do and believe they are due propper compensation.
But in the case of these free downloads how do you know if it is OK to use.
How do you find out who the developer is to find out about copyright and payment if required.
For example, quite a few soundfonts on a large and popular free download site are soundfonts I know for a fact have been extracted from commercial soundfonts, and some are not extractions but the entire commercial soundfont.

OK, let's try to revive the hope ...
Recently, Koolkeys upped the fantastic
Maestro Concert Grand .GIG to Audioshots. Somebody could do the same with SJO. As soon as I can see, Spe3d (i.e. Audioshots) is very glad to host these very requested files.
Anybody willing to U/L for all of us

Hi PT,
I always have that same concern as well. One never knows when it comes to free sounds that pop up on the net. I submit music to a music library and the last thing I want to do is ruin a relationship with them by some mishap. I think it's best to try and be reasonably sure before using that they are people who make their own content. I have a track that uses a freebie sound set that I hesitate to submit because I can no longer find it available on the net. It makes me wonder why the sound set is no longer available. I really like that track too. I tried to recreate the feel of that sample but no go...
Oh well.... Probably better safe than sorry.
