Deciding between MAutoDynamicEQ and GlissEQ

Thank you both for the explanations of what's going on here, that was really helpful. Sorry I'm late here. It's nice to know MADEQ is performing sometimes beyond the sensitivity of my ears; I was pretty darn into the feature set it offered but didn't know if I needed to be worrying about some of the things about truncation/"leaving a film over the sound" I was reading about.

I did end up getting it, although... it was actually because some very kind stranger bought it and sent me the license in sort of a random act of kindness :oops: ... which I feel both grateful about and also somewhat awkward/like I need to work on being a better person so I can do the same. So thank you to that individual. That was very unexpected.

But it reacts to the whole broadband sidechain signal, and not bandpassed signal like MAutoDynamicEq, right?

When the dynamic equalizer mode switch is enabled, an extra panel will appear with dynamic equalization parameters. These parameters control how the gain parameter will depend on the input level within the frequency range of the filter. This is particularly useful in situations where you only want to apply gain for low signal levels, or only apply attenuation for high signal levels. To allow such level-dependent equalization, the filter section effectively becomes a dynamic range compressor operating on a specific frequency range only.

It's a win win situation..I learned something new too :tu:.
Statements like "leaving a film over the sound" sound to me like something you would read in audiophile forums. What does this even mean? Loss of high end frequencies? :shrug:

That's weird because I just tested it with an external sidechain and it seems to be reacting to the entire sidechained signal, and not only to frequencies around the filter. I sidechained a low passed kick (now I think about it I probably should've used a sub bass) and I set up the eq with a single dynamically ducking bell. It seems to duck the same regardless of where on the frequency spectrum I put it.

Both are great, MAutoDynamicEQ is, however, more versatile. If you also want spectrum matching the decision is clear: only the Melda product has it included (and in a very comfortable way, actually, it is imo the best and easiest application of match EQ I have come across).
