You mean Beatassist rather than Bassassist?

Post

definitely getting some cool bass sounds out of this. might give it a go!

Post

Tried this out yesterday and came up with some decent chorusy FM piano patches. Seems like a fun synth!

Post

I played around a little yesterday, and I can't say I'm fan of this one. The only thing I like is the fact that you can create feed-back loops in the filter section.
Also, shouldn't this thread be linked on the KVROSC page? I had to search specifically for it.
Edit: Now the link is fixed...

Post

Hmmm, cute synth. Really a bit sparse, but quite workable, I find.
Only one peculiar thing I found- and it's a weird one: I kept playing a simple loop of some held notes, like a simple little hook. After some time, though, it will retrigger the last note played rather than playing the new note. Funny for a sort of "live" feel, like the keyboarder screws up a bit, but I'm sure that's rather on the "bug" end of things, hehe. Maybe I'll report it to them...
Anyhow, not half bad and super easy to make nice drums with it, too. :tu:

Would love to get going on this, but feeling stupid at the outset:
In mac os 11.3.1 (Big Sur) the synth installs just fine after the usual skirmish with Apple blocking over "unidentified" developers. But Kuma's text instructions for the presets is to place its "Presets" folder in library/audio/presets, and there is no "Presets" folder in Kuma. Tried putting "Mac OSX - Soundbanks" folder in there, but this did not work. I figured out a convoluted way to upload individual presets, but it's really cumbersome. Would like to hear some presets just to get a sense of what the synth gravitates toward. Any suggestions on a fix, so that I can easily access the presets from the synth? Thanks in advance!

Post

Yes, preset handling is in a way unusable as if there where no presets. An opportunity to do all sounds from scratch... Fortunately it loads fine in Kushview Elements as there is no VST version on Mac...

... may be i am stupid, but how can i delete a patch cable in the filter section? i am working on mac os x 10.15.7, StudioOne5 or Logic X and a Wacom Tablet.
Thanks for help!

Right click the cable in the input/output circle of filter you want to remove

I don't know if this helps with Mac, but on Windows I put the presets in Documents\VST3 Presets\Duarte Vinagre\Kuma 508. The synth reads them directly from there.

How about saving a patch from within the synth, and see where it places them on your system - then you can copy the presets (not their folders) from the installer zip to there.

But you have to aim very carefully, it took me quite a number of trials to get it done.

I found it refreshing not to have presets. Not too refreshing how limited the modulation options are, but workable.
Funniest thing for me was how official the website comes along. I was almost worried it would be a demo version. But then it's a totally rogue deployment, which is hilarious, but I like it.
After playing around with it for a moment, making the beginning of a track, I saw those clips on the website. I had to laugh out loud in the "Preset Examples" clip, when he goes: "enjoy!" and then hits you over the head with some cheap metal tray, then tazes you and hooks you up to a live-wire, hahaha... possibly the most hands-down-unenjoyable sounds conceivable!
I'm rather glad I didn't see those before starting to play with the synth, hehehehe.
The synth is good fun, though, and behaves decently. No weird CPU spikes, ok quality sound potential and enough weirdness mixed with enough normality. I'm only sad about the very limited modulation options, but it invites a bit more inventiveness, which is nice, too.
Only weird part is the note thing... wonder, if this will become a problem, but it's almost funny and interesting, as long as you're ready to let it surprise you a bit. :hihi:

Post

Ok so no velocity sensitivity? Maybe no piano sounds then.

No vibrato? Ok so maybe no solo wind/strings patches then.

So... Um. Maybe a drone track? :p

About the presets thing
In the ZIP I have downloaded there's a presets folder.
In the ZIP I have donwloaded there's a folder "DOC" containing a "Windows x64 preset install.txt". Quote:
To install the soundbank and preset manager for X64 versions of Kuma 508....
...please copy the "VST3 Presets" folder to your documents folder!
Documents Folder -> C:\Users\"user"\Documents
All your presets should be stored here so that they show in the presets menu of the VST!

I think there's even help for Mac. Can anybody check if this does the trick?
