They're modelled on different SSL consoles so have slight differences in the sound. When they were giving vouchers away at xmas I demo'ed all of them and the focusrite sc console; yeah, they're different, especially in the mid range but not enough that I personally could really call, don't consider myself to have golden ears. I read some reviews that mentioned the comps character but struggled to appreciate the differences. The exception was the FocusriteSC, that seemed to have a notably 'clearer', flatter sound which suited me better, not as 'rocky', worked better on my ambient/electronic stuff. Shallow I know but the GUI was better too, bigger and not as aliased, didn't have to squint at the numbers.
Thanks - this was useful

- looks like the Focusrite might actually be better for me

You can pick up the focusrite one much cheaper. It was given away with some interfaces so people sell the codes.

(I don't have the 354E, but I do have a couple of other Lindell plugins the 254E compressor, which is excellent, and the TE100 EQ).

Another one worth considering is the DSM V3, which isn't specifically a multiband compressor but it does some amazing trickery within the same ballpark.

As for myself, I'm probably going to pick up the Ampeg B15N.
Sadly (for me) the two actual plugins I really want aren't included in this sale (yet??).
The Lindell multiband doesn't work for me. The rotary pots are sticky! Once i click it it won't let go. The only way to escape it is to click somewhere else, but then you can't set them properly. Oh well, just shows it's best to demo PA stuff.

^^ no worries - and also thanks for the heads up about the 354E pots :tu:

The Focusrite is a good sounding plugin, very useful.

Yeah, you can grab the Focusrite console (unregistered code) in the buy and sell thread for $10 with no transfer fees.

Def. a worthwhile venture.

I didn't buy anything in the sale. Now i've decided to buy TEOTE for a multiband compressor. :D

My fav PA plugin is bx_blackice beta gamma amp emulation on guitar or bass. Elysia has also some nice plugins. PA is cpu friendly, but since most PA did not get much use I sold most of them like all their channel strips and mostly I prefer a plugin from another dev.
What I would never buy again is all unfiltered audio plugins, SSL console emulations and Vertigo emulations, Black Box, SPL. Also I dislike brainworx black gui on their eqs or delay, it looks so boring, it makes me fall asleep.
Bettermaker is nice, but gui is simply awful.
Well, PA has so many plugins, I guess, everyone could find three or four PA plugins that might get some use.
I had a one year subscription with about 100 hundred plugins or even more? and ended up using only three plugins rather regularly.

This is what worries me as well when it comes to subs. But that's a bit OT.
Apart from bx_blackic what other two did you end up using?

/C
Neon City for u-he Repro - 80s pop & Synthwave soundbank
HARDWARE SAMPLER FANATIC - Akai S1100/S950/Z8 - Casio FZ20m - Emu Emax I - Ensoniq ASR10/EPS

Even if it's ot, PA's one year subscription I would recommend , you pay about 200 and can once buy plugins for 200, so you can buy the plugins you like on black friday.
First I liked amek eq, but then Bettermaker made a better job for me ;)
I like Bettermaker and like using bx_saturator on electric bass, even though I can't explain why I do not like the black gui, it's so boring and not good for creativity, but I have stored some presets, so I can work fast haha
Well, Townhouse comp is not bad, but I prefer good old The Glue.
I do not like using channel strip, the only one I d recommend is Waves omni schep.
I sold most of my plugins and chose 30 plugins I want to keep. My daw has a lot of stock plugins, too, so still more than enough.

I'm not a big fan of channel strips either and don't like the workflow. The Lindell 80 is pretty good but I rarely use it (but I use the Lindell 80 buss a lot).
These constant sales tempt you to buy plug-ins that you don't really need and will hardly use later on. That's why the subscription IMO doesn't make much sense because many of the plugins from Plugin Alliance are rather average and the few good plugins you can buy at one of the sales for partly far below $50.

bx_console SSL 9000 J for $79.99, that's a steal. I don't think it was ever at this price.

Post

I got it for 49 and resold it recently for the same price on ebay or was it knobcloud?
I think pa will sell it for 35 on black friday.
Plugin Alliance prices are plus VAT btw

I completely agree. Also liked Lindell 80, but never used it haha
Good thing is you can easily sell your plugins for a decent price on knobcloud or ebay, even if you got a little less than you had paid, you could get rid of it at least haha
Yes indeed, most pa plugins are just average, only a few good ones, but everyone must find out what is good for him. What is good for me, is not automatically good for someone else.
How many plugins does pa offer?
I think more than 100.
Considering all kind of different plugins they have, they maybe have three very good plugins and msybecabout ten good plugins.
Well, about 10% only is not really much, so not the best dev, but who cares! ;)

Maybe E or G, but the J series I haven't seen it under $99.99 and it was never added to promotion with monthly voucher, but maybe I am mistaken. I haven't watched it every day.
