I really wish most people were as rigid about proper information gathering and the scientific method with everything in life as middle aged men are about most anything on online forums.

[other stuff cut]

I just want to know how you found your one true DAW and have forsaken all others!
I have two, one came with the OS (Garageband) I've never used, not likely to even open it.
I bought Cubase SX1 in Guitar Center around 18 yrs ago.
I'm into doing music, not software gathering.

my FB has been deactivated more often than not this year.
If someone needs to think being on social media is a sign of being unserious, as compared to what is... unclear, maybe we can note where they are typing that shite first, and then worry. :P

Well, KVR is social media as well. I spend indefinitely more time here than on FB...

that was my point with that, yeah

I don't even have a facebook account. And I am researcher and ought to have a platform to discuss my research with the people. No way, I am not really interested in their opinion in that case. I just publish my research, they can make whatever of it they like as long as I am not forced to have a facebook profile. It has always been a delusive platform of self-promotion to me:

Look at my perfect dinner (when did that became a status symbol?)
Look at all those pictures from our perfect holiday (which I manically took all the time instead of enjoying my holiday)
Look at me granting expert statements (about topics I have never studied or have significant knowledge about)
Look at my perfect life (Eh? You mean your perfect lie, right?)
Look at ME, ME, ME, I am SOMEONE (No you are not, find another way to cope with it, plz)

That is how it looked to me when FB was born, and it still does. Would love to be in the wrong here, but I don't think I am.

Haha, that is a good description of what goes on at facebook. There
are predominantly insecure people with a need to communicate and
suffering from profile neurosis. That alone would still be bearable.

But unfortunately the whole communication and the picture posting
almost always mutates into an absurd show of pathological
narcissistic self-expression. And that is almost unbearable.

And: We haven't even addressed Facebook's most serious problem,
namely collecting data and creating profiles of people.

And btw., I would change this one sentence:
Look at ME, ME, ME, I am SOMEONE (No you are not, find another
way to cope with it, plz)
into this one:
Look at ME, ME, ME, I am SOMEONE (Yes, of course, you are
someone - but you are that even without all the little pictures and
without Facebook.)

Welcome to 2021. :P Not really limited to Facebook.

on one level a FB is what you make of it, and there's some great sharing going on, and I benefited from exposure of my music, and whole trip, and have crowdfunded thousands of dollars and ensured my very survival via it.
I caught up with my old crowd there, which is important to me, and otherwise never happens.

OTOH... nah, a non-starter here, everything I say is going to be an HPC stink here...
but FB is in the bigger sense very very bad for society at all because of certain things allowed and a definite slant in its culture which is (small l) illiberal.

Yep, never thought in the 80's that computers would help people argue with strangers about their interests in forums, masturbate, and attempt to portray their lives as perfect on social media platforms as some weird validation.

I mostly use Facebook to keep in touch with friends living on the other side of the planet and older relatives.,. and cat photos.

[Mod edit: HPC stuff removed.]
Anyway, I own three DAWs: FL Studio, Reaper and Studio One. Each were bought with a distance of several years. I worked on each a lot. My favorite is Studio One, the last I bought.
Today, I don't use FL Studio anymore, which I bought first and which I've used the most.

Can't imagine FB as being representative of anything musically, and if it is I'm way out of whack.

Never had an FB account, and only ever used one DAW at a time. It takes me all my time getting to know 1 DAW - why on earth would I want to vastly increase/waste my time by learning several DAWs? And, popularity of DAWs on internet surely tracks with which are the most cracked ones? "I have all the major DAWs, use this one for A, that one for B"...
...Right, so you spent $1000's before you even started? Mmmmhmmmm

Post

FB, aside from the political, which we can't get into here, is like everything else on earth, depends on who you're dealing with. So, it consolidated who I was long ago and who would care with what I do now, and it means social media in the broad sense. If I got really proactive and assertive like someone in business I could almost make my living there.
this social media is not different other than being plugins-ad-driven and -centric, it really just isn't.

I have no idea what people do to have all the things, not my business. I had a windfall and iout of it it bought two whole other DAWs which I sold for a small loss not long after.
