heya 8D,
I have a problem running MOTU mx4

I have purchased the box, which is v2 of the soft

I have an old Mac to run it on,
but the OSX is too new it seems-
what can I do?

I have Snow Leopard install disc- which might work.

I was thinking that maybe I could virtualize Snow Leopard somehow
I have a win10 system, and yeah the old Mac

Can anyone offer virtualiztion suggestions
-- for example what is Boot Camp?
can I use that?

I would like to get this MX4 working,
what do u suggest?

Cheer!
I wonder what I want in here

Hmmm... perhaps you can install (and run) Mountain Lion on an external disk.
Dual boot seems possible as well:

oh ty Bert!
I am trying VirtualBox
- it's being difficult, asking command line stuff and taking ages to react to any command

I looked at VMWare Fusion, but my OSX is too old

I'll follow the link you gave thanks again
... and get back here with how it's going

at a certain transitional stage, where I wanted one or two things which required Mountain Lion I ran a double-boot system, basically hanging onto Snow Leopard as long as possible, but there were Kontakt libaries which required a version SL didn't support. No problem, I honestly had no issues in doing.
This was on two internal drives, but that will be slower than a decent external drive today, was before SSD at all.

What's too old? The hosting OS (your current computer) or the one you're virtualising?

VMWare Fusion doesn't run on El Capitan,
which is what the iMac had as OS,
I have successfully rolled back to Snow Leopard, no virtualization

The big questions:

1. Does it all work?
2. Was it worth the trouble?

well
- it's sort of a silly thing to do

I have Digital Performer, which works on the newer OS, El Capitan
... so I can run MX 4 in that

- but I have another reason for doing this, in that a rare Keith Mcmillen product,
Stringport, also works in SL, and can be my sound card

I got MX4 installed and the iLok seems to be working too
I haven't got any sound out of it with MetaPlug in MAXmsp 5,
but I'll try Kore now

I thought it had a standalone, as AudioChocolate here in Oz says so on it's product page

-trying to run an au somehow atm

It is certainly worth it, as I think it's the proverbial, the MX4
I wouldn't like to pay the full price and have these dramas though

--thanks Jan! It would be a bit of a feat for me to set up dual boot,
but the possibility is noted
cheers too for Kore, maybe it'll help for this

edit:- yesss -Kore works, just need to try and auth it somehow, dunno what this old build needs for Service Centre or whatever it's called now
