What I should be able to do with Bitwig on my computer

there are particular things I can't test for, like "but sometimes we have three of us playing a couple of controllers each".
this could be a whole can of worms, because bottlenecks are more typically than not hardware attached as externals that are not optimal or the system is unhappy with, and/or that this in bitwig is itself inadvisable. It's not really reputed as a particularly efficient host.
but I could run the Equator patch on a very different setup which would verify or eliminate this plugin as a resource hog to this extent in itself.
I tend to doubt what you picked is like the one thing I used which appears designed to use every known thing in the instrument.

With Equator I was using Actuator but the issue is pretty similar with other patches as well. The screenshots here show before and after when running 10 midi instruments playing chords and I was wondering if other people had a similar user percentage as for me at least it tends to be pretty indicative of my performance problems.jancivil wrote: Wed Jun 09, 2021 10:47 pm by "overloaded the CPU" are you just looking at Activity Monitor and describing high percentages there or is it breaking up to where you can't use it after a point.
I don't look at CPU, and here's why. I'm going to be seeing things like "524%", which is not any issue at all in itself. it indicates multicore distribution. So none of what you're depicting in CPU means anything to me in itself.

I do feel a bit bad, and I feel as though a new Mac is possibly the only solution - New Macs seem to be cheaper than this one was anyway.I hate to say it, but I would feel really bad if I had purchased that Macbook Pro with so much money! I would get rid of it as possible as I can and purchase with its money a new MacBook Pro or Air with Apple Silicon (or any Mac with Apple Silicon chip).

I have two USB hubs, one is powered and one is not (with total 8 USB) I connect them to an Apple adapter that has USB C, USB A and HDMI outputs and one USB C (or thunderbolt) port. I bought this one because I was afraid from compatibility. This one is fantastic, it accepts everything I through at itMatspan wrote: Thu Jun 10, 2021 10:45 am But I think I will have to wait for the models with more ports just 2 is impossible as some controllers don't work well through hubs.![]()
Using: Cubase Pro 15, Bitwig 5, Tascam US-4x4HR, MODX6, DM12D, LaunchKey 49, Yamaha guitar(Pacifica 612v) and bass (BB234) and some virtual instruments and synths.

I had only shite hubs before I bought the one I did, and it being powered was a primary factor in the choice. it doesn't even need to be powered it's so good. "Powered USB Hub Rosonway 5 Port Aluminum USB Hub Extender with 4 USB 3.0 Data Ports and 1 USB Fast Charging Port, USB Hub 3.0 Splitter with 24W(12V/2A) Power Adapter and Individual Switches (Black)." $20.99. I'm really cheap, this looks like too much money but it was quite well spent. never has anything crapped out at any time, anyway. I run two controllers and my syncrosoft key in it.

Ok, there is no patch by that name in my Equator 2.
I don't want to browse a bunch of patches not knowing how simple or insane they are.
here are my prelim results. again this configuration is pretty unlike yours, different DAW, not hosted in DAW but the goal is performance of Equator 2 using a lot of polyphony and impact, somewhat incessantly.
I loaded Piano 2, I think is the name, but a basic piano. I made ten instances of it and sent ten tracks of a big chord, four-hands chord at least, at 100 velocity for all notes, massive chords. over and over, these like 16 note chords in ten tracks sent to ten instances of Equator 2 in VE Pro, coming back to Cubase 11 on 4 stereo outs. built-in audio at 192 samples in Cubase's buffer.
I'm not tapping a second core apparently. There is no breakup of the chord at any time. I'll test with a richer patch in a minute, but I'm inclined to remark your problems are your system and not the software at this point.
I found 'ten instruments playing chords' at the same time kind of dodgy, but I literally never do that so I wouldn't know.
here so far there is no problem at all. I didn't try lower buffer, if I did this for real (I'm in bed atm) I'd use my Presonus device and the latency is 8.5ms round trip. Here it's over 20ms.

the other control in doing this test is, there are no controllers attached at all. No hub, nothing, the machine with a not-the-most-efficient-DAW-either communicating with 10 instances of the instrument and hammering a stupidly big chord.
the only effect in this test is negligible, a limiter for overload protection on the master bus in VE Pro.
really high expectations of tons of action in a straight host with everything in the single process, is first of all quite more fraught than using a VE Pro or any other strategy to get things into a separate process.
I expected it might stress this setup with that much at once, but it doesn't. It might at 128 or lower buffer sizes but this is my normal settings, doing very hungry projects. just not ten instruments doing chords with 6 controllers at the same time.
no way to test that here, but you have a lot of moving parts to be concerned with.

the readings of CPU there in my picture don't mean anything to me other than it doesn't appear to have required distribution to cores particularly. I think some people see "81%" and take it as a sign of something, I do not.
I couldn't do only two ports at this point. I need my audio interface in Thunderbolt, not a hub, one external drive for samples, hub no good for that either, we're using three already

sorry, it's just called Acoustic Piano
Ok this is a much richer patch, same project/settings: Feedback Burn Piano evidently multicore distro has occurred. system does not struggle with this.

I have a similar hub - with up to 7 controllers and an audio midi interface, sometimes one controller is not recognized but after some fiddling around it works and once it's running it doesn't normally crash.jancivil wrote: Thu Jun 10, 2021 1:44 pm I had only shite hubs before I bought the one I did, and it being powered was a primary factor in the choice. it doesn't even need to be powered it's so good. the cheap hub I bought before this was actually stealing power from the syncrosoft dongle inserted into it, in order to run itself, to the extent the dongle crapped out constantly. abysmal design.
