my first guitar was a cheap japanese copy of a Tele, got it for my 14th bday. My father bought me a Kent drum kit when I was like 11, and he was a very cheap kind of a guy. I saw the very kit in a BFD expansion, what's the engineer's name, Ken Jim Scott. I'm so poor with remembering names.
Orange sparkle. and one 20" Zildjian ride, later. which he was pretty enthused about actually. It's like he wanted me to be a musician until I grew up, then I should get a job like everybody else.

I bought a special edition tribute Strat in 2009, 1200 bucks. It's the only guitar I have any recall of buying with my own money. I traded a kind of not-great classical for some also kind of cheap electric when I taught guitar, ca. 1975.
played an SG for years my girlfriend bought me with money from an accident, after she got out here. budget SG, I forget what it's called.

can you do Dueling Banjos?
I met that guy, Arthur Smith. I did one of my audition tapes at his studio. Home of the CRACKERJACKS. "If it's fresher than Bost, it's still in the stove." "Oven you idiot".

i wish id been that good
i only remember one of the old guys being anywhere near that level as well, he also played in actual bands, the rest it was more of a community get together.
all the grandparents and great grandparents had come over together on the same boats, so they were close.

most expensive guitar ive considered, was the ed obrian sustainer strat a couple years back. that was very tempting for a short time.
glad i held off as i feel less of a need for sustained chords, and i have the ebow for single notes.

Orange sparkle
 Had a part share in a Pearl kit in the early 90s. It was average sounding, but the orange sparkliness more than made up for it. I so miss playing the drums  . I should buy an electronic kit and spray it sparkly orange.

I didn't really know how to tune the things, it didn't sound that great in my hands. I wouldn't have known how desirable or not it was, there was no googling to be had. ;)
So when I saw the exact kit in the Jim Scott expansion it made me think, my father went against type to get me something decent. Just the one Zildjian tho. I remember the trip to the store, he had something specific in mind, which is interesting because he was not a musician. He asked somebody, he had friends in the jazz scene there. I got to play with professionals at 13 behind it, he tried to have this supper club featuring jazz.
I still keep a pair of drumsticks around.

...no wait... :dog:

Btw, it has been some time since we heard news from the music revolution. Maybe the revolution was strangled in its cradle? Yeah, well, you better learn how music theory discussion works around here. It is called "Twats": We dope ourselves, turn off the light and fire our Uzies. We turn on the light again, and those who have been hit are twats. Then we go for another round. Last one standing is the winner.

I like three btw, as a time signature particularly. I'm not a numerology person really. I appear to think in 9 a lot tho

maybe we should approach the thing more like Death Race 2000, certain types of victims accrue more points when you run them over.

You wish. Actually Fux is an entertaining teacher. Gradus Ad Parnassum is written as a very polite and respectful dialogue between a student named Joseph and his teacher Aloys. It is a wonderful example of an ideal educational relation in the 18th century. What we witness is Joseph learning his species by a perfect combination of instructions and trial-and-error: Will he succeed? The drama of the story. However, the real learner is the reader. How wise, how brilliant, how insightful. How could your ramblings ever compare to its purity? Here they talk about the tritone. Joseph has fcked up again but he could not have known better at this point and is forgiven.
