Slightly off topic - here's a pretty cool free spring reverb to slap on after Swanky Amp Pro
https://fuseaudiolabs.com/#/pages/product?id=301009892

It's the best free spring reverb I've downloaded - all day ;)

That spring does sound good, but I still prefer OrilRiver's studio reverb type sound in most cases. Back on topic. The amp and effects are sounding great. Any plans to add an impulse loader? Would be cool to save with presets. Not really necessary but convenient.

Very cool plugin, thanks for sharing.

Hi Jack,

Thanks for the feedback. I've actually been slowly getting all the legwork done for this feature, so it should be coming. Right now I'm thinking it will be in one of the first patches after release 1.0.

I'm thinking of a fairly straightforward implementation: you specify a file path to the IR(s) and they get loaded while the cab section gets disabled.

That sounds perfect. I usually like to mix a couple IRs together. Two would be good I think to start off. Of course theres always more options that are nice if you feel it for version 2.0, like series/parallel, balance, filter, mic position etc, But oh, feature creep. :-)

Version 0.5.2 is released: you can now load up to 8 pedals at a time and you can easily swap them between the different pedal slots. I've also changed the tooltip text for the toggle buttons to make it clear what happens when the button is off versus on.

The price has been increased to $45. Next Monday (if things stay on schedule) there should be an update adding cabinet features. I'm also tracking down a couple of small bugs, but hopefully its quite a smooth experience for the vast majority of users. If anything does come up please send a message here or at support@resonantdsp.com.

Thanks for all the feedback, and I'm looking forward to hearing more as the project finally approaches release.

hi Garrin,

It looks/sounds good here - is it just the pedal tab that's changed?
One little idea for the pedal tab - maybe you could put a little marker on the "1" and "2" to show if there are pedals set on the "other" one - and maybe another (or different colour) if there are actually *enabled* pedals on the "other" one?

Image

I just put a green dot (but it could be anything), when there is at least one pedal on the page, and the orange dot if at least one of them is enabled. If you think that's a good idea - it might even be cool to be able to see this from everywhere - ie the amp and cab tabs - so you'd always know if there are pedals enabled. Maybe just the "dots" at the very bottom?

Feel free to completely ignore these ideas ;)
Is there anything else to be checked?

Not a bad idea about a visual cue for which tab has active pedals. I'll experiment with some designs for that.

Nothing else to test in this update, thanks for the feedback. Hopefully things just sound good :).

I'll be coming back here with more information as time permits in the coming weeks. I'd love to do some more blogs to talk about new technologies in the plugin.

The next step will be the full release which is currently slated for a late early July.

Here's what you get in the beta:
  • The new UI
  • Six effects pedals: a tube-screamer-like soft clipper, and a DS1-like hard clipper, a Rat-like fuzz, a chorus, a compressor and a boost.
  • The new cabinet model with some bells and whistles, more to come later
  • Fine-tuned model configuration (it should be easier to find good tones)
I expect the development to continue well after release as I keep building the amp sim I want to use every single day. And I look forward to continuing to listen to the great feedback from the users to help shape that evolution.

Thank you very much for your support. I sincerely hope those of you who chose to get the discounted beta have a great experience with it.

Version 0.6.0 is out finally. This update is all about the cabinet section, and introduces the following:
  • Added an IR loader
  • Fixed an issue with the low end of the cabinet model.
  • Can now smoothly interpolate cabinet parameters.
  • Added an "open back" cabinet option.
https://www.resonantdsp.com/swankyamppr ... l#download

A few notes on this new update:

The open back cabinet parameter is a bit subtle as it is emulating the situation of an open back cabinet with nothing behind it. The result is that the cabinet has a bit more low end as the speaker isn't fighting air pressure. By contrast, if an open back cabinet is recorded with a wall or objects behind it, then there can be interference in the low end which will actually reduce the amount of lows near 100 Hz (depending how far it is from the wall or objects).

If you find that sound of an open back cabinet with less low end to be more normal, or just something you really want in the plug-in, drop a comment. I could add a 2nd open back configuration to emulate that case.

Presets which use the cabinet model (i.e. if you're not using a 3rd party cabinet solution) will sound slightly different due to fixing the issue with the cabinet model low end. This should be the last update that can affect presets as the plan is to move onto release, and then the model will no longer be modified. That said, if any major issues come up in the model with this patch they will of course be resolve before release.

For those who are curious, the issue was that in simulating the cabinets, the floor was misconfigured. And it adds a lot of shaping to the cabinet low end which ended up too weak, and "thin".

Thanks,
Garrin

I'm looking into this a bit, if there are no major hurdles I'm not opposed. But I don't want to promise anything. Out of curiosity, what kind of hardware do you want to run it on?

Thanks,

I just had a quick run through - and the cabs sound pretty good! ;)
The volume drops a lot when you enable it though.
(vol level with no cab at all compared to enabling the new "C" button)

I'll play some more with this tomorrow ;)

I’m glad you’re liking the cab model. After quite some work this week I think it stands on its own finally… hopefully.

The levels *should* be consistent once you’ve got an an IR loaded. But while you’re in IR mode with nothing loaded it is too loud. I will correct this soon hopefully.

Sounds good sofar. The Balance and Width controls work nicely for blending custom IRs. Reso and highs, while still enabled, don't seem to do anything but maybe due to the IRs I'm using? Also successfully loads my IRs referenced by Symbloic Links(I like to organize them this way), which is nice. I've used other sims that didn't like the symlinks.

A few suggestions for added features(I know, I know but maybe for the future :)
1. Add a button to clear a loaded IR so that nothing is in the slot (useful for testing blends etc)
2. Add cycle buttons for IRs in the current folder
3. When custom IRs are loaded, change labels for Balance and Width to make their function clear to the user (or add to tooltips) or both
