Changin from win10 to win 7

Amen to not getting any updates. The sky is falling - run!
Speaking of which, I accidentally ordered an extra samsung 970 evo, was going to put it on My aging intel mobo but I'm retiring that mobo and putting something almost as old in instead that will offer a 39% boost in speed.
Interestingly, though dated - it has usb3, sata 3.0 6gb/s 1 pcie x1 slot, 2 pcie x16 slots and 1 pcie x4 slot.
Moreover, the mobo is nice all over, like putting a jet engine into a mustang lol, though I decided to go with a pcie x4 adapter:

I found one with a built in safety mechanism should the power be lost, that sold me on it, but also that at 2,000 mb/s I'll be much faster anyways, and the temp will never max out because I'll be well within tolerances.
If it works, it'll run like a dream or else I'll have to use these instead:

Edit And you know regarding Linus Tech Tips videos, I doubt they're testing on vanilla win10. Instead they're likely utilizing re-installs with telemetry and bloatware removed.
While they call that probably more accurate and relevant to the advanced user, it's hardly accurate to the end consumer. It'd be prudent for them to have two different test scores, and for them to leave on all of the apps and have something like malwarebytes or antivirus installed furthermore if they really wish to emulate the customer base. It's really upsetting that a group of people so smart miss those details.
Edit Here she comes... Mrs. Canada (ASUS M4A89GTD AM3 GAMING MOTHERBOARD, AMD Phenom II 960T) - that's right ladies and gentlemen, they'd claimed that the intel core 2 was the top dawg in falsehood; for there was another dog in the yard far more exhilarating and potent with added usb 3.1 support and 6 mini sata 3.0 6gb/s connections and his clocks were not fixed by any means.
And inside this treasure of a mobo came a classy, dazzling array of ports to support a multitude of peripherals and the charming couple; the powerful pcie 2.0 x16's. Intel mobo? These scores bely a decade of naysaying:

Omg, I won't rest until I get this classic working with an NvMe Evo 970 Plus, what a thrill. Moreover, the sata 6 connection is fantastic. I think pci 2.0 is good enough, because they based the calculations to improve the math for pcie on old risers anyways, the math is less due to physical connection than it is calculation. There are only so many pathways either way. Some people drive porsche and some people drive a barracuda *grins.
Here's the nice usb3 card I'm getting which also provides pin support for the front (which is the only reason I got it.)

You say that like it's a bad thing.
By "support" I assume you mean the company won't help you if you have an issue (and how often does this come up?), because they certainly run fine on Win 7.
I can easily deny that I see nothing more "advanced" about Win 10.
ah, no. First of all, installing a "shitload" of software should not itself mess up an OS. Unless of course it's a POS. I have no "invasive" software installed, my only AV is Defender, and still have issues.
Win 10 blows. If you've had better luck, more power to you.

Actually, Windows 7 still receives updates. I know because I still have a machine running Windows 7 and it installed updates last week (I guess it's just security patches, but anyways).
Actually it isn't just support. Cubase 11 will simply not install under Windows 7. If you are not running Windows 10, you're out of luck. Cubase 10 wasn't supported in Windows 7 but it allowed to be installed. Cubase 11, no more.
It's mainly "under the hood" bit it is supposed to be safer and less prone to "problems" (although it still seems too fragile when having to deal with older drivers, etc.). This is the main fragility of Windows 10, AFAIK. If it has to deal with ancient hardware with old drivers, it is prone to severe problems.

It is. You end up with potential bugs which aren't fixed, and security gaps which aren't filled.
Windows is better than Mac OS in that regard, but, things can still get messed up. It's very rare, but, it happens. And, noone will help you then, with your mutli hundred € worth software.
It totally does. It's reason no.1 why people have issues with Windows. And that's not because it's a shit OS, but, it's because people install loads of crap software on Windows.
Seems like you're frustrated with Windows ATM, which obviously clouds your judgment.

We've just had our first ever Win10 nightmare and we have only just got the computer. M's laptop running Win8 went kaput and her dad ordered a new one with Win 10. Win10 is by default in S Mode which means only Microsoft Store apps can be used. You can get out of S Mode by accessing Microsoft store using the MS Store App. Problem is, she can't get online because the dongle that gets us online doesn't run an MS Store app, so isn't recognized by Win10.

Is there an option for developer mode that allows the install of 3rd party apps? No modem or Ethernet?Erisian wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 5:37 pm We've just had our first ever Win10 nightmare and we have only just got the computer. We can give that a check but I might be able to take the laptop to the library and use their free WiFi to switch off S Mode if not. Thank you for the tip.The Noodlist wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 6:06 pmIs there an option for developer mode that allows the install of 3rd party apps? We have that option but it still doesn't allow non MS Store apps. Anyway, problem solved - I took it to the library and used their free WI-FI to disable S Mode. Works fine now and M is happy, despite a bad migraine. The Noodlist wrote: ↑Wed Jun 16, 2021 6:06 pm Is there an option for developer mode that allows the install of 3rd party apps? So? Use it anyway and make that deposit of your paycheck you've been worried about. What's the worst that could happen?
