It's funny but personally I really like the idea of an app that stays the same over a couple of years. I think that's a by product of not having to host ever changing VST's - as is it's stability.

Post

I really want to see what they are going to offer.

Post

I just hope it's not like the last time they got everybodys hopes up and all they come up with was a rather dull drum refill....

Post

Yea, I admit I was dissappointed.

If you dont like change or improvement or expandability then Reason is the app for you :P . Its a really well written app, very efficient and very stable. I used to think that was a by product of not handling VST's but then Tracktion and EXT are ultra stable aswell. So I have the best of both worlds, stability and more toys. Rewire is more hassle than its worth for me so Reason's expandability is completely dependant on the Props. Which means you dont get anything new for over 2 years on average.

yeah, a lot of nerve discussing that thing here, I mean ReWire is so damn far from being an open standard, it's only free for the SDK, available cross-platform, integrated into Cubase, Live, etc. etc. etc.

open standard my ass

now don't dare let me catch you discussing Logic or AU's here, boy howdy :x

Post

I promise to never mention AUs or Logic.

Rewire is only partially open. You have to have a registered company to do anything with it, and the Props have the right to refuse anyone access, on any grounds (as I understand it). I don't know if they ever exercise the option to refuse access when someone applies, but it's not as open as, say, the VST specs.

The refill format is totally closed, and Rex was only recently released as a read-only dll. The NN-XT patch file format is the only thing accessible to people like me.

I'm gonna wait to see if Reason 3.0 blows my mind. If it doesnt I'm selling this thing. I dont even know what I'm expecting after roughly 2 years without even a hint of the new features.
My feelings exactly.

and AU is better than that how?

Post

I have no clue how AU is better than that, because I don't have a Mac and I've never looked at the AU specs.

Actually, I found this on Apple's site after some searching: AU Reference

It seems to be more available than the Rewire specs to me. Unless you mean something else...

There are bits and pieces on the Propellerheads website, in the General Board. It's a frame-based site, don't think I can make a proper URL for the thread. It's near the top of the list and popular. I don't think you have to register to read the General Board but can't recall for sure.

Don't expect much yet, though. Bits and pieces only at this point.

But AUs are even in the front page title of this place:

Code: Select all

K-v-R : [VST DX AU] - Supporting Open Standard Audio Plugins [Virtual Studio Technology - DirectX - Audio Units]
Surely that gives it a leg up.
