Soothe 2 vs Gullfoss vs DS-EQ

TEOTE is not a resonance notcher. I agree, it's not great for that task at all. It's too broad even at 64 bands.
(Gullfoss isn't a great notcher either although it's better than TEOTE). On single tracks i actually prefer it in 7-12 band coarse balancing up to ~3dB gain change max.

DSEQ and Soothe imo are similar but its more easy to make DSEQ sound bad than to make Soothe sound bad.
Soothe2 has pretty much replaced manual EQ notch/dynamic EQ notch for me. I simply slap soothe2 on and band-limit it to problem area, more often than not using it on mids/lows than on highs

Been demo'ing DSEQ vs Soothe against Smooth Operator tonight on de-rez'ing a horn section.

Firstly, Smooth Operator is a toy compared to these 2 beasts. Secondly, to the point, I like Soothe more than DSEQ for the basic task of resonance suppression. I can get DSEQ to sound very similar, or sometimes possibly better, but it takes a lot of tweaking to get there and you can easily stuff it up along the way - whereas Soothe is just so straight-forward to use, gives you instant results and it's hard to get wrong. But I am not writing off DSEQ so easily - it's SUPER deep (even has a learning AI function) so I can only estimate that given time to learn and harness it, it'd be an amazing utility.

Soothe's 20 day free trial with no dropouts means I can actually use it on this song I'm working on and commit the tracks for now though - and wait for a sale...

OK so I tried TOETE on single-track resonances and I don't think it's that great at the task. I like it more as a master bus "enhancer / spectral balancer" type thing, and in this case Gulfoss is the closest comparison.

I have some brass and horn layers I'm working on this weekend and I plan to demo and audition DSEQ and Soothe to try de-resonating them - against Smooth Operator (which I own) and manual notch EQ automation (my goto technique but is very time consuming). See which one comes out on top.

I hope it's not Soothe because the price is ridiculous, and I like TBProAudio because they use double-precision true 64-bit internal processing like Voxengo/TDR.

Do report your findings please.

Soothe won the contest! The price is crazy but I'm feeling like I can't live without it now. I would spend DAYS automating individual EQ notches in Crave to catch resonances - my ears are so finely tuned to picking up resonances now - but Soothe does it in minutes, sometimes seconds.

Horns, strings, guitars drowned in reverb etc - all the stuff that produces whistling resonances - Soothe lives upto it's name and soothes them.

I also tested against SKnote's SoundBrigade, which is not often mentioned, but actually one of the first plugins to specialise in this.

Re: Gulfoss - I haven't tried it but I'm happy with TEOTE. TEOTE and Soothe have completely different uses for me, and can't be compared. love TEOTE on the master for enhance/subtle spectral balance, and Soothe for de-resonating instruments.

Pretty sure in the right hands DSEQ is a very powerful tool.

I'm gonna either buy Soothe secondhand or wait for a sale. I can see it entering my top 5 plugins list easily.

I got Soothe2 last year and can say it's fantastic. Gullfoss is on my want-to-get list!

Out of the 3, Soothe2 and DSEQ are comparable, while Gullfoss is a different thing altogether

I have tested them all and for mastering i really love Teote, it can push your the last 1% i would say.
For anything resonance related (especially on vocals) i like smooth operator and soothe2 the most. DSEQ seems to be really capable aswell, but its hard NOT to destroy your vocals with it.

that's very true - i have gulfoss too which is something similar to teote. however i gotta say the amount of times i find myself using gulfoss is minimal compared to the number of days/weeks of manual eqing that soothe has already saved me
