True, but still waiting for MIDI over USB, audio over USB, sequencer to 64 steps.. :D

Yeah, there really has been a tremendous amount of new features added since launch (and since last June 2020). Very happy I picked up a Typhon - probably my favorite synth right now, despite it being a 2-osc mono. Goes great with Akai Force/MPC!

Well enjoy the wait and your complaints and giggles.

I’ve got 1/4” audio jacks and DIN MIDI jacks to make music with it just fine.

This conversation is hurting my personality.

Bye.

Apparently. You shouldn’t be so sensitive. Go make some music.

Just updated Typhon firmware to the new v4 Beta 2 on Windows and MIDI over USB is working.
Not going to test USB Audio, but nice to finally have working MIDI, I couldn’t get the 5pin MIDI working properly from my PC MIDI interface. There was a Beta 1 out briefly, but Dreadbox pulled it as there were stories of it bricking some units.

The problem is - preset manager on win10 - when creating a backup of all presets the app is creating a folder BUT the folder is read only - and that is possibly creating a problem as whenever a folder is created it's always read only.
Could you please anyone help - how to solve this issue with creating a backup of presets - I cannot create one - bank A-D are folders & are always end up empty. Cheers.

Given how good the Typhon sounds and how inexpensive it is, I'm surprised this thread has only two pages.

Regardless, these are the mono synths I currently own:

Behringer Pro-1 (replacement for my original Sequential Pro One keyboard)
Dave Smith Instruments Evolver Desktop
Mutable Instruments Shruthi 4MP (multipole Oberheim Xpander-style analog filter)
Mutable Instruments Shruthi SMR MkII (classic Roland-style 4-pole analog filter)
Waldorf Pulse 1
Waldorf Pulse 2

I don't know whether it's worth replacing any of these synths with a Typhon. I suppose if anything had to go it would probably be the Pulse 2 even though it has massive low end and is very flexible. Also, I don't mind the Waldorf "matrix-style" programming interface. It's surprisingly fast to get around on.

My Evolver Desktop is maybe getting a little long in the tooth. Even though its analog filter isn't that great and the 12 bit Prophet VS waveforms alias like crazy, there still isn't anything that sounds quite like the Evolver. It's super gritty and aggressive.

While I really like the sound of the Typhon, I'm not so keen on the interface. I've watched both the Loopop and Sonic State reviews of the Typhon and I still can't seem to figure out how that central oscillator waveform selector is supposed to work.

Maybe I should just get a Behringer MonoPoly and put it where my Pro One keyboard used to go. I absolutely love the sound of the original Korg Mono/Poly. But the lack of patch storage is kind of a dealbreaker for me. For this reason I might sell my Behringer Pro-1 module and replace it with a Behringer Pro-800 which sounds great.

Anyway, here's a killer demo of the Typhon by Synthetic Machines:

There are two reasons I don't have one of either the Typhon or Erebus:
1 Never having used one I am unsure of the interface/ease of use. I don't like the look of those white buttons and wonder if they would be squishy with no haptic feedback. Also, using that little screen might be annoying after a bit.
2 Mono-synth fatigue- do I think the thing is different enough that it can't be replicated on a 2600 or my Pro3 and even if it can't, do I really need another specialist. I am not a collector because if I was I would absolutely have two synths from Dreedbox at least.

I never imagined the market for budget synthesizers would be as competitive as it is right now.

I have one, but only use it now as an effects unit. Even though I liked the sound of many of the instrument presets they never inspired me to make any music with them. Not sure why.

I often thought the effects unit would make a great standalone box. They should release one.

The Typhon effects are bought-in though, so they might not be able to, depending on how they've licensed them. They're by SineVibes, so I assume they're the same ones you can buy and run in a Korg NTS-1 if you want them in a separate fx box form.
my other modular synth is a bugbrand
