FIrst off i'd like to congratulate all of you for ignoring yet another tracker moan post XG2 made, everyone saw through it and didn't take the bait!

Tried reason and it didn't suit me, but i bet all you reason users are in for a treat with the version 3 release.

Well it took them long enough. It better be insanely dope. They hired some new programmers too so I'm sure they're coming out with atleast another product.

But what could they do at this point to get them into "competing form" after they've lost years of development to the competition. Their development cycle is far too slow to expect that they will put out anything remotely as capable and well-spec'd as the competition at this point.

Well I'm sure they've been adding things non-stop since 2.5. So I dont think they've really "lost" any developing time. We just dont get to see anything or even hear about it

. And they also just hired 4 or 5 coders so that should help. Atleast I freggin hope so. Those guys are setting records for slow development. Atleast amongst popular software.

Reason was my first so I'm kind of fond of some things about it even though I've moved away from it mostly to Tracktion and VSTs. But Reason is fast, with just the one learning curve instead of having to figure out lots of developers. Still, you get better at that too and the sound quality from this approach seems more interesting.

They're proud and -- my guess -- have had to take a lot of time to come up with a next step that won't have all VST junkies just sneering. From the stuff they've been plugging lately on their site Reason 3 will be aimed at people who are making/want to make CDs, get F&F, etc. The Props are into routing, and a few interesting angles in this dept would make for a much more flexible and even more Prop-like system. So this is my considered speculation: not much in terms of "new" stuff, one or two wow items but much more in terms of development of existing elements with an emphasis on more complex interconnectivity. It won't be obvious, it'll be a puzzle for people to solve.

i actually wouldn't be surprised if they added some kinda of minor multi-track recording features to the program with version 3. considering that, as gizmo said, they've been plugging reason as a do it all yourself, totally inclusive program. it'd make sense for the large user base of hip-hop artists to give them the ability to actually record their vocal tracks directly into reason and not with a 3rd party program. also wouldn't be surprised to see (or rather hear) a re-designed audio engine, something with a bigger, less "dry" sound to it... hopefully, at the very least, audio input to be able to run things through malstrom and scream without a string of bounces and conversions.

i'm fairly certain they'll be for sure adding more "studio" quality effects, i.e. EQ/compression/etc. to match the "studio quality" reverb they added in 2.5... damn, i'm getting kind of excited for it... wonder how much the upgrade will be...

Anyways somebody tryed to put the little puzzle pieces together over in the Reasonstation.net forum. You might try your luck there. I personally find the screenshots at www.Reasonstation.COM much more informative and interesting than the ones at www.Reasonstation.NET.
