If I might be so bold as to put the emotion to one side for a moment - it's quite possible that software from one vendor would have a "character" if they are reusing custom-coded components such as oscillators, filters, etc in different products. This is totally normal practise. I'm speaking as a pro software developer of 15+ years and former employee of a well-known plugin developer.

As for a "reason sound" - if the mixer is deliberately adding colour in order to be "analogue modelled" or something then that may play a part. However, with all things being equal most devs want their audio software to sound uncoloured, and several DAW developers have chimed in over the years to squash the unsubstantiated theory that different DAWs have their own "sound". The plugins and filters and delays may have their own sound, but the basic sound of samples playing back un-stretched and with the same volume, panning, no filters or EQs etc all sound the same. Summing literally means summing - adding numbers together.

So to get this correct reason + helps me find my own sound by using the sounds of others and gets me the use of all rs devices for just the continuous payment of 20 notes a month until I die (or I lose it all if I stop subscribing). This sounds wonderful and I cannot wait to hear the great music my wallet makes.

Of course not, it's all real! For example Ableton is dry & cold (due to its Excel-like GUI), so using the skeuomoprphic Rack in it brings some analog warmth & soul into your music. If you're using ProTools, chances are your music is very sophisticated and professional, therefore bringing in some Rack will add a rebelious, freestyle, hip-hop character to it, make it more digestible by the "street". Basically, R+ employs high-end AI to add what your DAW - and by extension, your music - is missing.

I mean try it. The difference is night & day!
