Just recently I came across this vocoder: La Voz Cantate:

With 1024 bands that's really a lot - and the GUI looks appealing too.
I'm not a vocoder expert; I would, however, like to use vocoders for
natural voices and choirs. Has anyone had any experience with the
La Voz vocoder? Is that recommended? :?:

No one? :?:

This is how it looks:

Since it is a free vocoder, there is no suspicion of wanting to place anything
commercially. For me it's just about: Is the thing any good? Can it be used
to enlarge or multiply voices?

I’ve tested it years ago trying to find free vocoder usable in musical way like old vp-330. Closest I found was vocoder available in Surge vst

If you haven't tried a plugin you probably shouldn't write "best vocoder ever" in the thread title about the plugin. Just a suggestion.

Maybe you skipped the question mark? Just a question!

What made me ask "best vocoder ever?" are indeed the
features and the description. They say: "...a 1024-band
high-fidelity vocoder that facilitates natural and
clean sounding choirs
or even solo vocals."

Their list is:
  • FFT based 1024-channel vocoder
  • Stereo inputs for carrier and modulator, respectively
  • Optional MIDI input to drive internal synth as carrier
  • Polyphony with unlimited number of voices
  • Up to three voices per note with adjustable relative detuning and stereo width
  • Octave, semitone and fine tuning controls
  • Natural sounding sibilant processing
  • ...
If I compare that to other vocoders, including commercial ones,
then it reads particularly well.

Nope, didn't skip the question mark.

Looks cheap. 1024 bands fft based. That is a pretty little resolution. Analog vocoders have bands which span intervals, fft divides it into equally broad frequency bands. The majority of those bands is in a range completely out of interest. Doesn’t look interestingly enough to even try it out. (Beside being Win only).
A better headline would have been “is this the worst vocoder or can it unexpectedly surprise me positiv?”. If someone tried it she would be able to tell…
If you do a dsp programming course, a homework in an early stage could be: “build a fft based vocoder with what you have learned in this chapter.” Estimated time to do it: one evening, fine tuning and user interface another evening…

Oha, thank you for your assessment!

Of course we shouldn't forget that this vocoder is free.
