To be honest.. it looks more like KDE instead of Windows

Are there any motherboards that support TPM 2.0 directly or are they all just "prepared" boards with a connector that need an extra module? The prices for TPM modules will certainly already go steeply upwards...
Many say that fTPM also works, so TPM in newer CPUs (this is probably 1.2?)

I think that just because of TPM we will also see new motherboards that are directly marketed as "compatible for Windows 11" and then maybe have a TPM 2.0 module directly on the board.

"Trusted Platform Module" yeah that sounds like something I am not interested in at all.

Guess I'll be skipping another version of Windoze (likely all future versions).

Having read through this thread, and about the TPM thing...MS is in for a shitstorm unless it makes Win11 non compulsory. I have fairly minimal knowledge of the insides of pcs/chips etc, even less about coding, and I'm pretty sure I'm the norm. Joe public doesn't give shit about how a computer works. I wasn't overly happy at the time that Win10 pretty well installed itself last time without me having any choice in the matter, though once it was in it worked, it was solid and I got used to it pretty quick just like we all do every new version.

But if there's any chance Windows will install itself, then not work because I have to install some chip - which I won't be doing - then MS is in for a consumer backlash like nobody's ever had before. I will just have to assume that Windows will somehow check it's actually compatible before installing itself and stop if it's not. 20 pin/ 14 pin is nerd talk gobbledygook. I'm Joe public and if Joe Public is told you have to take your pc apart and install something you know nothing about to unbreak your pc that was not broken before MS installed some new shit without your permission...my response and everyone else will be "f**k off".

Compatible with Android...yeah might be useful to me possibly.
Prettier GUI...yeah I'll get used to it, might even like it.
SoIid OS...blah blah, Win10 is already soIid for me so...irrelevant really.
MS app security....blah. I've never once looked in the MS store. Seriously - never.
More bloat/less bloat...blah. I occasionally use some stuff, even MS paint though not for drawing willies. Most of it sits inside the pc and as long as it doesn't interfere (which it doesn't) I couldn't care less.
I have a pc for home/surfing/email/stuff and a laptop for music. As long as win11 let's me do...stuff at home and make music on the laptop then fine.
If I have to open up a pc/laptop to install a chip to let it work...MS are in trouble. I continue using Win10 until I upgrade in several years time or I seriosly consider something else. If win11 breaks my pc against my wishes I'll join every other f**ker in making MS pay.

Most likely...it'll just work, I won't know how it does, I'll be happy.

I guess I'm not against it . It looks very Linux , OSX , Vista-ish . Looks great . It runs Android apps , I guess if your system has a good GPU you can play Xbox games ? I had the R2D2 xbox360 and loved the OS on the Xbox . Microsoft . I used to dual boot Ubuntu till I got Windows 10. I really liked Windows 10 , 7 , and XP .

Yes, it will. I am on the Insider Programme and it has already told me my Surface Pro doesn't meet the minimum system requirements and I don't think it will even let me download a beta build to try. What it all means, of course, is that when Windows 11 finally launches, pretty much nobody will be able to install or run it and Microsoft will look like the complete idiots they are.

So why are they doing it? Easy, they are doing it because they've watched Apple get away with treating their users like this for decades so they figure they can do the same. I've had a good look at what's on offer and there is not a single thing that interests me and, for the first time since Vista, things that actively put me off.

Nobody with Windows 10 is entitled to a major version OS update for free and no one with Windows 10 should be forced to update to a new OS. Jeez, people have been fighting to stay on Windows 7!

Buying new computers next year will come with Windows 11 on and will be a higher spec and a more secure platform that old computers… all seems normal to me…at least with PCs you have the option to update hardware if you want to stay aligned with new OS minimum specifications.

Personally, brand new major OS….I would give it a year before upgrading anything anyway…no rush!

I won't bother about it till 2025. That time I will decide when I get a new computer (might be another mac or a Linux based PC, not necessary a Windows based).

Yup, interesting times…new apple silicon, new windows OS…good time to wait and do nothing for a year or 2 then decide!

I built my main studio PC about 6 years ago to a decent (but not top end) spec. Other than updating SSD and Graphics card and better WiFi it’s still fast enough for everything I do, I can’t face the hassle of changing computers (or OS) when everything is working and no new tech demands more…i7, SSD and plenty of RAM in a big water cooled case has been a great platform for my studio PC, not sure how much benefit going to i9 (or even M1) would give me over what I have.

I do also have a high end Dell XPS that’s only a year old, I suspect that will go up to 11 so I’ll be able to satisfy my techs urges to play…when 10 came out my studio PC was the last thing I updated!

Actually quite easy on OSX and Linux - GPU driver crash will bring them to their knees. Doesnt happen often as there are not so much games on them, but then again, even Premiere uses GPU today so yea I've seen them crash and burn. At the same time, since Vista, Windows will just reset the driver and you can continue working after the black screen. If the driver is totally borked, then Windows will STOP.
Still it's 3rd party GPU driver crash, I had internet browser messing with my memory till the point of freezing whole system, it's not Windows fault.

Yep but you wouldnt see picture, or maybe you would (I have no such deep knowledge anymore of new OSX and Linux distros, its outdated) but you wouldnt have any acceleration available or such without the 3rd party driver. Same as with Windows without any GPU driver installed, uses default VGA(?) driver then.

Anyway I would think its OS's fault if a GPU driver can bring it down instantly, its not protecting enough userspace. On Windows this wont happen usually, on others its instant "BSOD".
