I’m crossing my fingers Behringer get the CS80 keybed right if and when they release their clone.

It does sound really nice. I hope they release a module version and manage a lower price point, I'm definitely interested in going for a good sounding poly. I'm probably not savvy enough to know the relevant differences, so don't kill me, but for me this is in category with the deepmind and the pro rev2. And if they say, release the ubxa module for 800, i would probably get this as my main desk analog play thing.

Think I’m right in saying Behringer have yet to bring out options for both desktop and keys on any of their models, but the Pro-800 (Prophet 600 clone) seems to be coming out eventually as a poly desktop even if this doesn’t.gExpectations wrote: Sun Jun 27, 2021 8:33 am I hope they release a module version and manage a lower price point

Oh wow, I didn't know about that one. I think that would be a perfect option for me.WatchTheGuitar wrote: Sun Jun 27, 2021 9:25 amThink I’m right in saying Behringer have yet to bring out options for both desktop and keys on any of their models, but the Pro-800 (Prophet 600 clone) seems to be coming out eventually as a poly desktop even if this doesn’t.gExpectations wrote: Sun Jun 27, 2021 8:33 am I hope they release a module version and manage a lower price point

Nah, j/k. Honestly though, it will probably sound quite different to those two synths, because VCO vs DCO. They do operate differently, and as a result, sound unalike.
How much this will matter in the end, however, is a pretty subjective thing. Once you’ve made a patch of some kind, stacked on some effects, added other tracks, and mixed and mastered everything ... yeah. Almost any synth will do, in all honesty.
And some people just like the “DCO sound”, a la Juno.

I have a DeepMind 12 and a Rev2. They are quite different both sonically and in terms of features, but I'd expect the UB-Xa to be somewhat similar to the Rev2, being based on a similar Curtis chip design. It will probably sound "darker" and more "vintage", where as Rev2 and DM12 sound more "modern" and "precise". Of course it all depends on how you program your patches. There are plenty of ways to turn a bright, modern-sounding patch into something with a more vintage vibe.gExpectations wrote: Sun Jun 27, 2021 8:33 am It does sound really nice. For me, it looks like the Pro-800 will be the low-cost, module "version" of the UB-Xa. Obviously not the same in terms of features or sound, but it would be a lot easier to fit into my setup than another massive 61-note keyboard, both financially as well as in terms of physical space.
Take a single oscillator, producing a drone. Send it to the wave shaper, altering the tone.
This can be a triangle, Sawtooth or a square. Modulate the pulse width, nobody will care

Me to. Can't hear anything that I can't get out of the plugins. Oh well, I'll wait for BS80AnX wrote: Tue Jun 29, 2021 6:38 pm can't say I'm impressed, certainly wouldn't trade my software clones for the hardware

The biggest reason to get a hardware synth these days is just to have a physical instrument with a dedicated control surface etc. In terms of sound, you'll get nearly identical results with e.g. Obsession, even compared to an actual OB-Xa.

Of course. And also need to record everything to audio and other disadvantages. This is why, for me, to buy a hardware synth, it must have also an advantage in sound over plugins to balance the pros and cons of having a hardware synth. This is why, for example, I'm happy with Bodyssey. Online demos convinced me to buy it (same for Model D) almost immediately. I don't feel the same about UB-Xa. Of course, it can change when more demos arrive.AdvancedFollower wrote: Wed Jun 30, 2021 9:59 am The biggest reason to get a hardware synth these days is just to have a physical instrument with a dedicated control surface etc. In terms of sound, you'll get nearly identical results with e.g. Obsession, even compared to an actual OB-Xa.

Might just be the original synth in this case. I think the OB-Xa (after being wrong about it in the past) isn't really their top sounding synth. SEM, OB-8, OB-X, they all sound better to me.AnX wrote: Tue Jun 29, 2021 6:38 pm can't say I'm impressed, certainly wouldn't trade my software clones for the hardware

They have the Deepmind, if you don't mind it not being a strict clone.WatchTheGuitar wrote: Sun Jun 27, 2021 9:25 amThink I’m right in saying Behringer have yet to bring out options for both desktop and keys on any of their models, but the Pro-800 (Prophet 600 clone) seems to be coming out eventually as a poly desktop even if this doesn’t.gExpectations wrote: Sun Jun 27, 2021 8:33 am I hope they release a module version and manage a lower price point
