Studio One 5 Available Now (5.3 Out June 29th, 2021)

I'm not really impressed or feeling this release cycle (5.0-5.3). So far, other than the hardware acceleration for the UI, there hasn't been a single useful thing for me yet. Usually they do a good job of blending types of features throughout the releases, but I'm thinking I should've skipped the 5.0 upgrade entirely and waited until 6. It almost feels like I bought version 5 so that I could figure out why plugins crash instead of making music.
And yes I know I'm just being negative and complaining, but I really wish they'd address some other things.

Yawn.. Still no real midi updates, no option to save external instrument patches or patch names for external synths, no updates made to the browser ,still can't tag our content. Won't even install this one. Back to Cubase

From my perspective, it's about what I'd expect. There's no set rule about what constitutes a .point update. This isn't a huge release by any means, but the lack of VST3+MPE was a big gap for any DAW claiming to support MPE, so they at least closed that. Bug fixes are always welcome, lest you constantly hear the tired old refrain of "I just wish they'd stop new releases for a while and fixed all the longstanding bugs" complaint from users. Plus, the .5 releases tend to be the bigger ones.WatchTheGuitar wrote: Tue Jun 29, 2021 5:32 pm Not enough for a point upgrade if that’s all that’s been added.
I'm not using Studio One these days (Reaper), but I skipped the v4 life-cycle and updated again at v5 as they got in a lot of my longstanding requests. There's a lot to like here. A lot of old small annoyances too (like no MIDI "All Channels" options for track input). I personally wish they'd stop adding these half-assed "pages" no one's asking for (show page, project page) and focus more resources and the DAW aspects, but I get why they do it. They're trying to expand their user base and the overall appeal of the DAW. On the whole, I think the v5 life-cycle to date has been pretty decent. Having skipped v4, jumping to v5 felt like a really nice upgrade. For folks not feeling this update cycle, just skip like I did.

The best and most important updates to Studio One came in version 3 and to a slightly lesser extent to the version 4 cycle to make it worth owning for it's duration... and I'm still on 4.6 because there wasn't anything of real significance to want to put any money down for an upgrade to version 5. The version 4 cycle was the most fun for dance music producers I think... Version 5 seems out of touch and all rather lost in who they are aiming at.
Here's version 3.3 for comparison.

Aren´t you guys a bit too critical???
I mean a feature like being able to drag the chords into an instrument track was a long requested feature for sure...
For a "point" update that´s a nice addition I think...as well as their work on sound variations and on the Show page...

Personally anything at all they do with the show page is just pointless for me, if they keep developing and spending more time on it I may have to look at other alternatives. I moved from Cubase to V3 S1 as Cubase just kept adding stupid features I didn’t need cluttering everything up and adding bugs. S1 was much cleaner and simpler…it just did the stuff I was interested in well. Now however I am not sure on its direction, who is it aimed it?

Exactly! That's exactly the reason I'm still on version 4.6. I don't need clutter, and gazillions of features. I really dislike the current trend to sell feature upgrades every 2 years. If I want that, I can as well just hop over to Cubase again.
I apologize if that kind of talk is annoying for people genuinely interested in this new update, and the features added. Just talking from my perspective.

It feels like Studio One is heading towards more film score updates lately. It would be nice to be able to create Dolby Atmos content using Studio One.

Many of the latest updates seem VERY valuable to film and trailer composers. I think they know who they’re targeting.THE INTRANCER wrote: Tue Jun 29, 2021 8:27 pm The best and most important updates to Studio One came in version 3 and to a slightly lesser extent to the version 4 cycle to make it worth owning for it's duration... and I'm still on 4.6 because there wasn't anything of real significance to want to put any money down for an upgrade to version 5. What are they then ? Is there a video clip timeline that other DAWs have like Cakewalk By Bandlab and Cubase have ? Support for Surround Sound mixing / Import - Export ?vitocorleone123 wrote: Wed Jun 30, 2021 1:26 amMany of the latest updates seem VERY valuable to film and trailer composers.
