Strange. Did you maybe cut your internet connection? It was mandatory the last times I installed Windows 10, which was 2018 or 2019.

Of course I did my install offline, as one should... as far as I know it has never been mandatory BUT as the shitty company Microsoft is they do everything they can to create the impression that it is mandatory...more or less "dark patterns" like most things these days.

It usually are a small text down in the left corner that lets you continue the installation and create a local account when it complains it can't find a internet connection... and I even think there's one more try to get you to change your mind on the screen that comes after...

You can block the feature updates if you want and stay on a version until you want to update;

Mhm... it's just that one of the first things Windows does is check for updates, and for drivers, and if you choose to set up your account, it also syncs your settings, browser bookmarks, OneDrive files and all that. So, yeah... pretty much... it's not what "one should do". It's what you chose to do.

There are legit reasons why not letting Windows 10 do whatever it wants straight away. I now you have a soft spot for Microsoft but if you support "dark pattern" behaviour then you are on the wrong side. There's is nothing, and I repeat nothing of what you mention that it wont do when YOU choose to go online. That is IF you have choosen to use any of those services... my point is you should get an upfront honest choice and not be manipulated into it.

If you do it for a client, you need to do it with a local account, so you just skip all that and install drivers ..etc. You can create a local account (like and admin for example). I personally make like that, an admin account (locally), then if the client wants me to setup the rest, I can either show him/her how to do it or make it for him/her (except the password I leave it to them to enter).

Anyway, for me, I don't think I will deal with Windows 11. I would just advice my new clients to buy a Mac or install Linux for them :hihi:

"Dark pattern behavior", "manipulated", "shitty company".

And you tell me I have some kind of "spot" for Microsoft.

It's always beyond me how someone with such a strong opinion about the software or company he's using can even go on supporting the company, and use their software. If you think it's so shitty, and you think they have some dark pattern behavior going on, and manipulate you, why the hell are you still using the software, and tell people who don't share your weird opinion that they have a "soft spot" for the company. Face it, the only one who has some kind of spot for the company, and it's not a soft one, is you.

Yes I did tell you... you seemed very confident with online requirement for installing windows was mandatory.

I mean it will not show you an option to create a local account when you have a online connection available... however, you could trigger the local account by entering a bogus telephone number and the option would turn up down in the corner.

If that is not manipulating customers I don't know what is and one can argue the definition of dark patterns if one choose to but it's not a far of a stretch either way.

Dark Patterns are tricks used in websites and apps that make you do things that you had no intention to do, like buying or signing up for something... in this case I can tell you that there are people beside me out there that had no intention other than to install windows 10 as their operating system, not create a MS account.

If they had been as clear with the local option being an alternative as they are clear that Windows 10 comes with a browser called Edge then you would have known it was an option.... is this so unfair to have an issue with? really? So much I don't deserve to use it? (Rethorical question, not looking for answer.)

...is that a ad hominem?

It's exactly this I mean, I've seen you counter people with before this before "why do you use then if you don't like it"... You are not that dumb, you know very well there are many possible reason why me or anybody for that matter might not be in a situation where there's any choice.

I never said I don't think there's some good come out of windows, heck I've been a window user since windows 95 and worked with the version before that.

I want Microsoft to improve, not go the other way around. The changes of late since windows 7 have probably been in the name of profit. Of course I won't argue that making a profit is bad thing, it's how you choose to do that however. The narrowing down of user preferences and choices does not do any good for users however Microsoft can then spend less resources maintain windows that way.

Not saying they don't do stuff of use, I mean you obviosly seem to like their servcies, One drive, syncing stuff and what not. I have no issue with that, it's fine... it's the way they push and push it onto the users and works against users who has other preferences. Although to be fair it actually seems to turn around abit, the last News&Weather feed in the taskbar did actually include a direct simple way to turn it off...so more of that.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean with this. as I said I have an issue with the behaviour the company... and I do feel being able to voice ones opinion on the matter is perfectly legit even if I choose to use it, why wouldn't it be? (Rethorical question, not looking for answer.)

I have no further plans on continue this discussion and I didn't mean to offend you with the "soft spot" it's just how I have come to percive it and I should have choosen my words more correct and not stated is as a fact as in "I Know you have" as I did, my bad, but I've had a really long day and had no intention than to correct you on the local account thing.

You can dislike that all you want, I really didn't mean anything bad with, all I can say is that my opinion has not changed after your replies here, if you don't understand how anyone could percive it that way then you don't...

So take it as you wish, I won't bother you again...

Same here. Next year, I'll buy a computer with Windows 11.

Hope I can upgrade my laptop though. ATM, I think the CPU is the issue. The laptop has TPM, but, the CPU is a 7th gen i5.
tbh their tool to check is wierd, as is their minimum spec on the website. Just says a CPU with more than 1 core faster than 2mhz or something similar, which my CPU is, and the PCHealth check software doesnt mention my CPU just the TPM thing, yet the CPU in my machine isn't on their compatible list.

Its all still really confusing, and W10 runs til 2025 anyway, so plenty of time to upgrade, just all depends when the free update to W11 ends, thats how they try to force peoples hands.

I would say the opposite - there is no reason not to let Microsoft configure everything for you. I've set up two new PCs this year (one home, one work) and so far I haven't had to manually enter a single password into Edge on either of them. I log in with my user name and it takes care of everything for me. It's awesome! It's no great conspiracy, Microsoft are just trying to make the experience as good as it can be for everyone. If you'd rather it was a PITA, you are free to make it so but there is no logical reason for it, I can assure you.

What convenience?! It's the opposite señor! It's easier for me to just put for them whatever on the market that's Windows 11 certified! Why bother myself explaining ! Anyway, my most clients are friends or friends of friends or family. So, I just let them see what I have and they can choose. If they want Windows 11, they get it!
