jasonekratz wrote: Sun Jul 04, 2021 4:52 pm I totally agree with everything you said. But it's always in the presentation. There is definitely a way to do it rationally and matter-of-factly. And furthermore, don't just make stuff up because it feels good to pile on.

In short, all for criticism. But lets be fair about it too.
I can totally 100% agree with this. You are very right.

I do know it's sometimes hard to keep a cool head and keep the criticism within rational and non-emotional levels. I've had years of issues with this myself when it comes to Acustica Audio products and business practices. It went so far that I had to completely distance myself from them even though I've literally been with them from the start (literally!).

Sometimes it's healthy to just realize that whatever company you would wish did XYZ simply doesn't want to and doesn't see things the same way you or a large portion of the community does but instead want to do their own thing. At that point you just need to lay the axe to rest and either accept it as it is or look for something else.
100% agree. Everyone has their limits/ideas about how this stuff should work. When you don't like it move on elsewhere. We've got 20 billion other options. Roland Cloud is another thing that comes to mind that drives people nuts... ;)
bmanic wrote: Sun Jul 04, 2021 7:46 pm This is sort of where I am with PA at this moment. I do like the concept they represent, having a lot of great plugins under one easy to navigate and license umbrella company. I just wish there was a bit more fluidity to the company when it comes to bug fixes and community communication (the facebook group doesn't provide either.. it's total praise-the-king's ego thing).
I get the frustration people have with various things like PA poker or whatever people call it. Waves drives me nuts with the "sales" that are never-ending and basically just the normal price. Sometimes they truly have a sale on some stuff. But at some point the realization was thats just how they operate and I can either live with it or move on. My opinion is they still make good plugins for a good value. I just unsubscribed from the emails. Problem solved.

Well you can complain about it and hopefully make other people think about it so we dont live in waves/pa/slate perma-sale dystopia straight from idiocracy in 10 years time.

No, because at this point that would be the same as banging my head against a wall. No thanks. My life is much better without worrying about it and buying stuff when I want/need it.

New video from Dan Worrall on the Amek and PA channel strips:

(You might want to skip the PA pricing mini-rant and the "why I love Fabfilter" bits for the first 8 minutes or something, or not, your choice.)

I don't know about you, but to me he sounds a bit annoyed or bitter in the narration in this one, rather than his usual laid-back soothing tones...

i downloaded the demo.
The same as the AMEK EQ and a couple of other BX_consoles, THD works only if you enable EQ.
THD increases as you enable more EQ bands (even if they're at 0dB).
And it's the same THD as in the 2098 (and a few other BX consoles) - and it's a pretty standard soft clipper, i can get in the ballpark (40dB cancellation) with MWaveShaper in 2 minutes.
IIRc the only two bx consoles that aren't soft clippers are Focusrite and 9000J.

So can someone explain:
- how is THD intensity being tied to separate EQ bands intuitive (esp if you have a THD knob?)
- why is THD being tied to EQ in the first place (THD knob does nothing if EQ is disabled - even if Comp and Limit are enabled, if all EQ bands are disabled and EQ IN is enabled still no THD.)
- how come THD of all consoles from different periods is the same, tied to the EQ and frequency independent (not how transformers work, and 100% not every console has the same transformer)
- why is this EQ/THD behaviour identical through so many PA consoles if it isn't reused code?

Well, first of all sorry I got your blood pressure a couple of notches up. I did not bash anyone. I shared evidence of a clear issue in a plugin in a very objective way, hoping for the developers to take it into account for the (potential) next maintenance batch. I did it through a ticket that got unanswered for weeks, then I posted it on facebook and that got Di*k attention and thus his utterly rude and unprofessional response. This has happened to other members of this forum, it's not new, Di*k has done it repeatedly in a completely baby-fuss way, and it has also happened as response to youtube videos that show issues with some PA plugins: you should check the FB fanboi group and search for Di*k's responses to a video from the White Sea guy (and to be clear, I don't like the guy's content or style at all, but I don't go around insulting him, calling him names and pointing out hurtful mental issues like Di* did). If you think this is cool you need to work on managing your anger.
SoftSynthLover99 wrote: Sat Jul 03, 2021 10:57 pm These developers don’t owe you a thing and don’t have to add features to the products YOU want them to add. And just because YOU have issues with the plugins doesn’t mean others will.
You're wrong. They owe me the product they promise to deliver, free of obvious issues. I wasn't asking about new added features, but about a clear flaw in the plugin that made it unusable for me (a paying costumer). If others, like you say, didn't identify those issues is irrelevant. The issue was obvious (aliasing/truncation, UI lag on certain OS, subtle -but noticeable- sound degradation when using multiple instances...), if others can't hear it or don't care about it, it doesn't make the problem disappear.
SoftSynthLover99 wrote: Sat Jul 03, 2021 10:57 pm I’ve used Brainworx, Lindell, Elysia, Unfiltered Audio, SPL, Maag Audio, Vertigo Sound and a bunch more and never had any crashes or bugs that broke my workflow. And a lot of them I used from V1.0 on initial release.
I'm glad that is your experience. For me, on the whole (before I got rid of most of them) it was the same. But then, when I found an issue I did the normal thing: report it so it can get fixed. I'm still unsure what you think is wrong with this approach.
SoftSynthLover99 wrote: Sat Jul 03, 2021 10:57 pm I have no interest to know how much money his company makes as it’s irrelevant. I’ve never felt like any of the plugins I use from PA were cheap, rushed or not polished. On the contrary I find the plugins I use from PA to be quite “premium” in the sound department. And I know a lot of professionals working in the industry who feel the same.
Thanks for sharing your opinion. Mine differs.

You're asking questions about design/developer decisions. Seeing as the developers of these plugins aren't here, I'm not sure what outcome you are hoping for?

Decisions are made for all kinds of reasons...
Ploki wrote: Mon Jul 05, 2021 7:10 pm- why is this EQ/THD behaviour identical through so many PA consoles if it isn't reused code?
The THD probably is reused code, as is the console plugin framework and the implementation of the TMT/THD behaviour. If you've already built a bunch of console plugins which have the general functionality and architecture you need, of course as a developer you re-use as much as you can, unless it gets in the way of some new feature you need to implement.

I don't see this as a problem, just an implementation detail. I would imagine that probably 50% (or more) of the code in these channel strips is common code, the differences being in the detailed behaviours of the dynamics and EQ sections, and some differences in how stuff can be routed around etc. Let's face it, they all have very similar functionality (at least in the broad strokes).

I demoed it on some music and my initial impressions are actually “meh” for this one. Wasn’t really impressed and it doesn’t do something I can’t achieve with my current workflow. The bottom end also sounds really “bloomy” which I didn’t like.

Solid 6.5/10 for me. It’s not great or game changing in the audio world, but it’s also not a bad channel strip. I’m sure the right mix and for the right person this could be pretty great. Oddly just not my cup of tea from PA this time.

Pretty much the same here. I don't know why ploki thinks it's a game changer, but then he is just unrealistically positive about everything PA, so I'm not sure how much that's worth... :P

Anyway - I like the PA channel strip thing in general, but the Amek is not up there in my preferences for me - I'm not that interested in it as my existing tools already do what I need (although the Lindell 50 is something I'll pick up when it's cheap enough...)

i didn't even notice but UI on Big Sur is broken just as bx true peak. I reported that bug on true peak like two months ago
