So double standards, it’s ok for Arturia to influence sales and market ripping off a product from another company, it’s legal because they didn’t use same name, or Behringer, that’s hypocrisy too…

you might want to read some of the things people say about behringerPassing Bye wrote: Sat Jul 10, 2021 8:59 pm So double standards, it’s ok for Arturia to influence sales and market ripping off a product from another company, it’s legal because they didn’t use same name, or Behringer, that’s hypocrisy too…

You can't buy the hardware any more. You could pay Access something if it bothers you that you are using the ROMs, I presume, just send them some money by whatever method you prefer.starflakeprj wrote: Sat Jul 10, 2021 10:30 am So, if it's theoretically illegal to download and use a ROM from a synth you don't own, isn't this exactly the same as using an illegal copy of a plugin? I wonder how many here would justify this, but but not justify using an illegal copy of a plugin..
If you can't buy the hardware, it's not the same as using an illegal copy of a CURRENTLY AVAILABLE plugin. Of course, there is a difference between using an illegal copy of a no longer available plugin, and a currently available one. If a company has ceased trading, who is losing out if you use an illegal copy of their plugins?
Later on somebody suggested that the availability of this emulator is 'bad' because it might lead to fewer sales of commercial VSTs, (presumably because it's so good!). By that logic, no free VSTs should be available, because somebody might have the audacity to use them and not buy new software.
And presumably all VSTS should stop working after a year or some other arbitrary period, because you might be happy using an 'ancient' VST (like Sylenth, for example, or Zebra 2) and not want to buy anything new...
You could watch the sales of second hand Access Viruses on Ebay and see if they suddenly go down in value...
Access could easily start selling the ROMs on their website, so you could use them legally. It isn't rocket science. Access could contact the programmers of the emulator and offer to buy the emulator and pay them to continue developing it, and sell it.
Anyway, back to the emulator - it's working great for me, on my old i7 4790s (10% CPU when idle, up to 15% CPU when playing four notes.) I have been using it in VST Host, next I am hoping to get it working in FL Studio, so I can have multiple instances and actually make some music with it.
Well done to everybody involved in this amazing project!!!! Your hard work is very much appreciated.

they (access) could easily have done it themselves, but they haven't....BenfordLaw wrote: Sat Jul 10, 2021 9:11 pmAccess could contact the programmers of the emulator and offer to buy the emulator and pay them to continue developing it, and sell it.

That's fair. As before, acquiring ROMS is within a gray area. It's not totally wrong, but neither totally right. If it's something that makes people uncomfortable, they certainly don't have to use or associate with this project in any way. Unfortunately, the current reality is that this project is the only way to authentically experience all of these synths to date and there's quite a number of them. So if you enjoy them, the only alternative is to either continue to wait for something that may never come (i.e. official plugin releases of said legacy gear) or buy the hardware itself on the second hand market.Chapelle wrote: Sat Jul 10, 2021 7:35 pm But anyway, I'm just saying that the argument "nothing wrong with it, doesn't hurt anyone" isn't necessarily true.
If any of the afformentioned companies released plugins based on their old gear, I would and will happily support them. For the past few years, I've gone around messaging Clavia, Novation, and Waldorf a few times on their support emails/social media if they had any interest in something like this. This way, they know that at least one person is interested. They haven't jumped on that ship yet, so this remains the only software solution to be had which is why I support it.
It be what it be.

thats as maybe, but whether the thread surivives is a different issue.
will kvr want to be seen to support it, then try and sell ad space to companies in the field?
dont be surprised if it does disappear

I don't think you understand. It has nothing to do with if a company is loosing money or not, or if it is a difference between using an illegal copy of a currently available plugin or one that is EOS. It's simply not legal since the license agreement tells you it isn't.BenfordLaw wrote: Sat Jul 10, 2021 9:11 pm If you can't buy the hardware, it's not the same as using an illegal copy of a CURRENTLY AVAILABLE plugin. I'd pay for this if any of these companies could be bothered to tackle it. Meanwhile I'm not going to use a bizarre convoluted setup to make all my music and stop buying vsts. It's mostly a neat trick that could hopefully turn into a marketplace for "official roms" running in a vst emulator. I'd pay hundreds for an optimized emulated Nord modular running on this platform. It already used a cpu only based interface. Did the An1x run on one (or more) of these Motorola chips? Those are the only two synths that I have trouble with when it comes to using a vst instead.
The legal issues of playing with emulation based stuff seem a bit moot since the roms and synths are no longer available from the original companies. I'd pay Sega for a master system and a copy of Zillion 1 and Zillion 2 along with wonderboy in monsterland, but they aren't selling it so if I want to revisit it, I have one option that I am happy to take.

As time goes by and GUI's are developed for each ROM, everything will be much simpler and easier to use. Unfortunately, the AN1x and other Yamaha synths are not possible as they seem to use their own unique chips that Yamaha uses on everything from the An1x, CS-series, DX7, Sega Genesis etc.

I just had a peek at the latest MAME (0.233) and look what ive found under 'Consoles':
Right now they are all listed as 'non-working', (and i didnt test any of them to see whether any of them do because i dont have the ROMs), but it is apparent that they intend to do make them work, otherwise they wouldnt have included them in the list of supported devices.
Looks like the DSP563xx team is not the only one working on synth emulation...

It seems that that list i posted is only the tip of the iceberg.
If you download the Category.ini you get a lot more under entries such as Music/Synthesizers and Music/SynthesizerModule, for example Poly-800, EX-8000, MKS-70, Synthex, JX-3P, JX-8P, Polysix, Wavestation EX/SR, even the Boss GX-700 Guitar Effects Processor. The list seems to be endless.
Boy, they sure have been working...

Yes, I was wondering about the 303 and 606 mentioned in that list... and, I never even heard of something called "MAME" before, had to Google it.

I already spoke to the MAME devs at the start of this journey after finding similar things, they said they had no intentions of doing any of the synths, not anytime soon anywayENV1 wrote: Sun Jul 11, 2021 9:34 am I just had a peek at the latest MAME (0.233) and look what ive found under 'Consoles':
