For others interested, here's what this plugin does. It's basically 5 functions that have no further control :
- Focus is a one-knob compressor that is tailored for EDM synths.
- Boost is a simple static low-mid eq boost.
- Drive is a pretty harsh sounding saturator, seems to be without any oversampling.
- Widen just boosts the side signal, which clips rather easy so be careful.
- Pulse is a simple synced 1/4 note lfo effect, without any further control.

All the functions have an extreme setting which will just make it sound more pronounced. Everything adds volume yet has no individual gain control, but luckily they added overall volume knobs.

The only interesting thing is the compressor, altho you can get the same results with many free compressors. CamelCrusher's one-knob compressor sounds a lot like it, not crazy considering it has been used by EDM guys a lot.

Way too complex for me, could we possibly get that down to just one knob?

The thing is, though, it's the way the compressor works with the other tools in the plugin. The magic happens when you get the balance of Focus, Boost and Drive just right. To look at each tool individually is to completely miss the point of the plugin.

I definitely think it is way too aggressive for 99% of EDM genres, though, but it's great for EBM/Industrial. I don't know that I'd use it on a mix for an album track, although I am definitely willing to try, but it gives our live mixes a real edge that I can't wait to hear on a big PA.

So you're saying it doesn't do anything? I assume you have downloaded it and tried it for yourself, then? Because even that idiot snake oil guy doesn't think it's snake oil and he at least tried the demo before venturing an opinion.

What you need to understand is that the whole mastering process is basically snake oil - it's all playing with the way your song is perceived by a listener, as opposed to actually making it sound "better". e.g. Louder always sounds better so using a limiter or a compressor on a mix is snake oil, unless you don't bother with make-up gain and let it sit at -8dB or whatever. It's all snake oil.
