On what material Soothe makes the most sense?

Hey, I think about using Soothe 2 but Im wondering if its worth its price tag so Im interested in your usage for it.

I heard people are using it for vocals instead of a DeEsser. For what else can you use it? Busses or single tracks, drums or melodies? When is it superior to a dynamic EQ?
Is there an genre for what its more useful?

I think it's really best for cleaning up mic'd sounds. So vocal harshness, sibilance, proximity effect stuff. Weird resonances on guitar cabs/drum mics. Change up tonal balance because of mic placement not being optimal for certain song sections. I think some people use to even out synth resonance/harshness, but if you're using VSTs I think you could handle that with normal sound design/automation.

I think it's advantages vs. a dynamic EQ are really for vocals, mic'd instruments, etc. because it saves a ton of time vs. pinpointing and automating dynamic EQ bands

Harsh synths, tight FM modulation on synths, vocals, can even sidechain some bass nicely away. Even on master if needed.

Instruments with extreme resonance - ie: frequencies that poke out and cause whistling. For me that's Kontakt strings/brass, synths/pads with too much VintageVerb baked in, direct recorded guitars etc. I bet Soothe works wonders on averagely recorded vocals.

I wouldn't use Soothe on the master as having access to the mix I can less destructively fix the problem at the source.

i never use it as a de-esser (i'd sooner use spiff as one tbh)
I use it wherever i'd otherwise use a dynamic EQ for notching

I use it on hihats also.

It really is magic on hi hats. As mentioned already, it's also great on harsh synths. I've also used it on synths with undesirable resonances that move around and are difficult to handle with dynamic EQ.

Hihats? What are you removing generally there? Just asking, I wouldnt have thought of using it on hihats.
Oh and electronic or live hihats or both?

I usually remove most of hihats body and leave the highs there, and maybe add some other stuff under the treble part from shaker or such. Depends really.

Hi-hats from the raw output of a TR909 are known to have some mid / upper mid resonances - so to get that squeaky clean modern sound they're often EQ'd. I imagine in commercial sample packs this will have already been done to an extent. Referring to the original question, while you could use Soothe to remove resonances in "static" one shot samples like a 909 hi-hat, a more appropriate use would be dynamic material - like a recording of an actual kit
