Hey guys, I would like to ask if someone who might have an Echo Chamber machine and can run a quick experiment on a song for me please?

Post

What do you mean by that? An actual echo chamber, which wouldnt be a machine, or a tape delay or something else mechanical which wouldnt be a chamber?

Sorry I should have given more info. I want to purchase a vintage echo chamber machine for a 70s/80s home stereo system. I had one back in the 80s but cannot remember the brand/model of the one I had so I am looking for one if it can repeat "snare" beats in a playing song and "on the fly".

Right now I am looking at Korg and Roland echo chambers. Specifically what I am seeking is to repeat the snare beats multiple times.

I did a search online and found this video echoing/repeating a snare beat:

In this clip I took of by bud's tape recording back in the 80s, you can hear after the end of the guitar solo there's the first normal snare then the following snares each are repeated multiple times and it is that effect which I am trying to get.

With this unit, you can hear the snare echoing or repeating on the fly while the tune is playing at like the 2.25 mark, this is what I need to do with a vintage desktop unit and I "think" the echo chambers can do this.

actual hardware, or a plugin emulation?

hardware units for hifi's were this sort of thing:

so not necessarily the same brands as effects for instruments, though of course those would probably be more applicable.

Hardware unit. I have messaged this seller here:

https://reverb.com/item/38292183-mondivox-echo-chamber''

to see if he can play a tune for me to get the desired effect similar to that benidub unit. I have tried different analog Delay rack units especially a few 80'S digitech machines like the RDS2001 but those can only repeat the snare seems like one time only.

repeated delays are a result of feedback, which that digitech definitely has control over, so im surprised it didnt work. any delay capable of close to 100% feedback should do.

Yeah that was exactly what I had expected but it does not, it adds a modulation type effect, not repeating the snare beats. I might have to end up trying a plugin instead like this:

but I use a DJ/Radio automated software to playback music which does not natively support VST fx. I had tried using Winamp as a host and virtual cables but got error messages.

I got the clip of my bud's recording, if you can skip to the 20 second mark you will hear the 1st regular snare beat then you will hear the 2nd and 3rd snare beats with the echo or delay applied, that is exactly what I want to get

A very good choice, but maybe more features than you really need. You could start with a more basic delay plugin like one of these:

Which software would that be? People over here are always very willing to list their favourite delay plugins, but first you have to find a way to use it. Perhaps someone here knows the solution.

perhaps the delay time is too short.

i assume the snare is on its own track? because there's no way a hardware delay can fully isolate one sound from a mix.

Yes I had considered that but as you can hear with that Benidub unit it repeats the snare a few times.

Sorry, I think the video is public now:
