Hooray: Metasynth is coming for Windows

The only program that ever got me to seriously consider using an Apple for music was MetaSynth.
A Windows version is an instant buy for me.

We shall see orchestral machines with a thousand new sounds, with thousands of new euphonies, as opposed to the present day's simple sounds of strings, brass, and woodwinds. -- George Antheil, circa 1925 ---

Still waiting for more news about this. I've got an itchy clicker finger just waiting to buy it!

Last time I heard about it, they told me that Eric only programs for macOS, and they are evaluating the possibility to hire someone to make the Windows port, but didn't have anyone yet (apparently, the candidates are asking too much money).bmcclure wrote: Tue Jul 13, 2021 2:06 pm Still waiting for more news about this. I am not expecting much, frankly (and much to my disappointment).

I saw that update too, but I'm still holding out hope. And perhaps the more people who express their desire to purchase it on Windows, the clearer it will become that paying for Windows development makes financial sense.

Unfortunately not going to happen. For PC we have Photosounder and Iris 2 from Izotope

That's like advising someone looking for a car to use a bicycletoitoi wrote: Tue Jul 13, 2021 5:37 pm Unfortunately not going to happen. For PC we have Photosounder and Iris 2 from Izotope
You don't know Metasynth, do you?

If you can't afford a car, a bicycle is better then walking. What's so special about Metasynth.

Metasynth is a sound melting monster, that’s what. I am on a PC and i’ve wanted a Mac just to run it. (And alchemy v2.) It is true (on fairly flat ground) a bicycle is better than walking.
Personally, i would like to have Metasynth for PC.

What makes you say it's not going to happen? I have not seen any announcement that they have given up on the Windows project. As far as I have seen, they simply don't have the development resources on hand to do it as soon as they planned.toitoi wrote: Tue Jul 13, 2021 5:37 pm Unfortunately not going to happen. Photosounder and Iris 2 are great, but they don't fit the exact same niche in my opinion. Both are available for Mac as well, and yet many people still use MetaSynth because there is room in this world for all three.

I'm acquainted with Metasynth, used it a bit ~14 years ago. I vote with two hands for more audio tools but reality is that it's a very niche product, interface not intuitive, cryptic and dated (literally from the 90s) - didn't change much since then. Was unique in 2000s but today not so much, so Metasynth will always be a niche product especially with those ridiculous prices. I don't see where and how it gets enough user-base to finance the development.
We'v got Cycle, Virtual ANS, http://www.klingbeil.com/spear/Spear and Fragment too.

Niche products can often be the best kind. MetaSynth has a long history of Mac exclusivity and Windows users wishing they could get their hands on it. I am sure some of those people have lost interest over the years, but I also imagine there are others like me who would love to fork over the asking price to add such a unique (and, as you say, niche) product to my arsenal
