I used to have this synth. I sold it a couple years ago. There are a few things keeping me from buying it again:
1. Limited modulation options. I’m not including the scripting language possibilities, which at this point is more of a bandaid as opposed to a meaningful synth update. I shouldn’t have to learn a scripting language to do what Drumspillage or Tremor have been able to do for years.
2. Limited synthesis options. Microtonic’s oscillators are pretty flexible for subtractive synthesis, but there are many percussion sounds it fails to do out of the box. Membrane modeling, FM, resonators, saturation algorithms, etc. Again, I know scripting can alleviate the FM limitation, it’s not ideal.
3. The sequencer. I don’t like it. 16 steps unless you chain them together, but you can’t see more than 16 at once. No per-step modulation, which is a huge miss in a modern sequencer.
I just never found myself reaching for it anymore, so I sold it. Though Drumspillage doesn’t have a sequencer, it gets me where I want much faster. Personal opinion of course.
