You may already know this, but Milkdrop continues as projectMwhyterabbyt wrote: Sun Jul 11, 2021 10:48 am … anything which will use (parts of) the audio to drive parameters of 'something' generating visuals. Most exposure people probably get is via the kind of thing you used to get in Mp3 player software, ie Milkdrop for Winamp.

An idiot on Set Theory:

well, mainly one question at the minute.![]()
is there a way to choose a selection of a app? as when i look for options or use it, i get the whole samplitude screen.
is this where i move to "resolve" (or other program?) or can it be done within obs?
also, i am having issues recording the audio in to obs, it sees my audio stuff, but doesnt seem to recieve or playback audio? (i know it can, im just not sure whats wrong??)
this isnt as important as i do have a workaround using a count in which i can line up

If you can't get it to work, then you can always correct it in post. The only downside to doing it after is that you might end up with a blurry image than you would have wanted (but for oscilloscope, this might be a non-issue).

im not that worried about blurriness anyway, its for overlaying/fx and psyche stuff.elxsound wrote: Wed Jul 14, 2021 8:19 pm If you can't get it to work, then you can always correct it in post. You can crop the source and allow it to overlay a different source. Right click on the source, choose filters, and then click the + at the bottom to add the crop filter. The sources will show top to bottom so move the scope window to the top of the list. One thing that I find irritating and I've not really found a good solution for is that changing window sizes will change the cropped region. So this works better with multi-monitor setups. It's possible that there's a workaround, I'm not an OBS expert by any stretch. Like many, Covid forced me into doing some minimal live video production. When I use powerpoint I lock the presentation view to a fixed sized window and this helps. I also use external monitor apps for mobile devices and that works as well. There's also a plugin for Chrome that forces the window to a particular monitor resolution.

You can also use shareX to capture the window directly, then overlay it in whatever program
you like.
*ShareX captures at the GDI level, so it can capture the output of any window, be it a plugin UI,
or the output of the main application window or any subwidow from any MDI applicaton.
you like.

I don't know ShareX, when I look it up it seems that it's just screen/window/region capture, so correct me if I'm wrong, but that won't work for capturing live video that is changing as a function of other elements of your video production?pekbro wrote: Wed Jul 14, 2021 9:09 pm You can also use shareX to capture the window directly, then overlay it in whatever program

If I'm just doing "picture in a picture" for a video recording, it's often easier to just record both streams separately and sort it out with my video editor. Vegas makes this rather easy.
The reason that I do some of this with OBS is that I need it to be live. Multiple windows containing related dynamic content have to be combined in real time before going out over zoom/teams/whatever. That's what I thought that vurt was asking about. I thought that he's doing something for video and the changing scope reflects what he's doing so he needs that as a dynamic overlay over whatever his main content is?

*Yeah sry, no live capture I guess. Too bad as it works really well.

all suggestions welcome.
not sure about necessarily needing live tbh.
im just dipping my toes in, obs was suggested as an easy to use screen grabby thing
