Softube Tape Echoes

I am surprised there is no thread on this. I got an email from Softube saying last call for an extra 10% off (ends 15 Jul 21). I did not have this on my radar so went in to check it out. My god. I was thinking that my Audio Thing or Audiority tape echos or even likely McDSP's MC300 would cover it. I was wrong. Tape Echos does bring something new to the table...

$99 Reg, login to see sale price (mine was $65), additional $10 off with PROGEARVINTAGEVIBE end 15 July
"Tape Echoes is overflowing with all the pulsating color and character you need to take your tape effect from authentically gritty to lavishly analog. With the Drive & Dirt features, you can effortlessly drench your track in as much wobbly, glitchy, distorted delay as you can fathom. And by setting the delay time to Just Dirt, you can achieve a classic old-school grit. It's a plug-in plush with vintage lo-fi vibes and it’s an absolute dream to use. Tape Echoes: you can say that again."
My comments: This echo is amazing in that it has a really beautiful sounding progressively worse and worse Dirt control complete with noise and glitches. On clean its pristine and full bodied. With the three heads on, wide panning and ful on Dirt, it has this incredible swirling deep soundstage sound!
Here's an example I did with TAL J-8 using a long attack sawtooth synth pad with open filters, dry. All the effect is Tape Echoes...

i also have a bunch of alternatives already but this plugin is really beautiful.I bought it last week and it really sounds amazing!
fwiw imo with the newsletter discount $59 is a fair deal relative to Softubes general pricing.

Well if the OP isn't going to use a thread title that is relevant and searchable with typical search terms, which I did before I posted to make sure there wasnt already a thread, then oh well. We'll carry the discussion on here.

fwiw for me the Softube newsletter user pricing is the only way I can even consider buying their plugins.
They are great plugins but Softube's prices otherwise are too expensive for my general state of poverty.
Regardless Tape Echoes is a great plugin!

Thanks for the reminder! Super tempted to grab this before the intro sale ends, even though I have Valhalla / Pulsar etc.
Anyone compared to the new IKM one? I wasn't wow'd by that one but for 20 Euro it'll get some use.

I picked this up the other week too. It is a great sounding delay. Intro price was decent enough. I don’t buy plugins much anymore, but this one convinced me to make a move.
I compared it to the GSI one, which I don’t own but grabbed the demo when I was demoing Softube’s as well, and Outer Space from AudioThing, as well as Valhalla. I could get Valhalla closest to sounding like Softube but still not quite the same. I find this is just nice and smooth and doesn’t need as much messing around to get a sound I’m happy with. I’d prefer the feedback to be stronger at maximum, but I just have to change my approach a bit and crank the feedback sooner than I do with other delays, if I want the feedback to build up rather than fade out.
Softube’s pricing is high, always have to buy on intro pricing or wait for sales later.

it's gone straight into my live set, it's a little bit hoggy, but it only took a few minutes of dubbing to hit the button. I really wish it were possible to separate the the amount of saturation, wow and flutter etc. The limitation kinda adds to the character though i guess. After scooping up this plus Timeless 3 i think my other delays will be collecting a whole lot of dust.

This is a great delay. Sounds fantastic.
Tried to replicate with Valhalla. It highlighted that the Valhalla degraded repeat sound is actually quite harsh and scratchy.... Esp at high feedback levels...
The softube just degrades in a really nice natural analoguey tape way. Sounds fantastic and real.

Snagged it. I really don’t need another tape echo, but it seems like it will be fun to use inside of Modular.

Just out of curiosity, how does the self-oscillation of Tape Echoes sound? I haven't found good examples yet. Could someone upload some examples?_leras wrote: Thu Jul 15, 2021 2:08 am This is a great delay. Sounds fantastic.

Here's a track caked in Tape Echoes to give it a dirty vintage 70 Berlin School vibe

And a more sparce mellower version with lots of gooey Tape Echoes..
