I have nothing against subscriptions (for those that see value in them). However, I have everything against forcing it down my throat aggresively and at every possible step, while slowly killing your headline product of the last 20 years. One of the companies is doing just that, the other quite the opposite.ShawnG wrote: Thu Jul 15, 2021 5:29 pmPeople attempting to justify being butthurt at one company’s marketing decision while downplaying the same decision made by another? It’s weird but this is kvr.
Can you see the difference?

It's all a matter of personal choice. You don't have to subscribe to Reason, you can buy everything still. You don't have to subscribe to the Sphere (or use the Show Page grrr) in S1 either, but like it or not time and resource is being spent on it...
Personally I had no real interest in Reason until they introduced 'the rack', 'hi res' and the new instruments like Algortym, Frtiktion...so 'for me' it is what they are doing lately (and I don't know when the history or politics of 'new management') that is good, much better (for me) than what they have done in the past...so Vive La Change, even if that incudes pushing subscription (its still just an option) and a pushing to get the rack in others DAWS (you still get the Reason DAW included and people like me who had no interest in the DAW have discovered we like it!)

The thing is for the users who have been with them since the beginning (in my case rebirth and reason v1 at release) we have seen a company with a clear strategy and direction with amazing technology and transparent honest marketing and comma slowly lose any sense of directing with multiple failed products that have been left in the technology graveyard while at the same time not keeping up with the times.
Now they launch subscriptions following g the private equity but our and they and hide anything to do with buying a normal license. Sure, it’s there but when you find it it’s almost too cheery to rung true. How long it lasts - who knows. The a few months in and you have bargain basement offers to try to hook new users in or move people onto the model. It really smacks of desperation.
Finally you have the marketing which is pushy amateurish click bate that is barely above midi pack YouTube adverts.
The direction and product isn’t for me these days and that’s the same for lots of users who helped the props grow but you need a great clearly marketed product to make headway and they don’t have that.
Instead you have: “you can subscribe see how cheap it is” - “don’t worry you can still buy it of course you can”
“Look at our rack in loads of daws (it also runs on its own but we won’t sell that or even highlight why that’s a good thing)”
“Sound like yourself / here is loads of identikit sound packs”
“Get all the content (except the rack extensions in the shop that’s hard to find on our site) and early features (you will be beta testing for us)”
You get the idea.
I’m not sure they have the engineering or appetite to bring about the changes so shiny graphics, sound packs and subscription deals it is.

Fortunately I don’t use their marketing, I use their software, which is great. Based on Algorytm and Friktion I would say they have the engineering and the imagination to make great software in the future, I hope so…the new creative sampler and new completely customisable combiner will be out soon as well, I remain optimistic and I also started with Rebirth (and hadn’t used Reason since Record was separate!)

Yeah I remember using Rebirth on a work laptop back in the nineties to help get through a boring commute. And being heartbroken after a couple of hours creating what I thought was something great not being able to save it because it was just the demo version.

That's nice - and you tell the story every other post hereSLiC wrote: Thu Jul 15, 2021 7:19 pm It's all a matter of personal choice. Sure, you got 11 Suite super cheap, with free upgrade to 12. What's not to like?!
And I don't mind that, just like I don't mind there being a R+ option for those that want it.
But change in RS policy is heartbreaking. I hate to think how people with 10+ years history with Props feel.
Just look at ReasonTalk. Most of old users are gone, moved to other DAWs (50% to Live, BTW) or have either converted to spreading new gospel - literally, it's like they all preach from the same book - or make bitter and frustrated posts... Like I was. Or check the YT like/dislike ratios - they look like TEDx's since they went batshit woke...

But people are sold the product via their sales strategy and marketing which in turn pays the work force. Producing a plug in is a very different ball game compared to a full DAW which is why we have stacks of instrument plugins crated by all sorts of people and companies while we don’t have hundreds of DAWs being produced.
At the end of the day I moved on to logic and Ableton live which are light years ahead of reason in terms of features and usability. I sold my reason 11 suite license and still have lite to access my rack extensions I bought over the years. I still have the suite rack extensions because their “engineering” isn’t able to un tie them from your account when you transfer a license.

What is? Many long term posters are gone, or bitter. Most of the mods sound like they read from the same script (granted, that was always true) + some new users in a honeymoon period over the R+ joined them; and YT videos are disaster. The 50% concerns people that moved to other DAWs - they chose Live; not that 50% of all Reason users moved to Live.EnochLight wrote: Fri Jul 16, 2021 2:18 amThat’s some made up shit right there, sport. Ironically one of the things that kept me away from Reason for so long was that all I ever read was negative comments from (almost perpetually) angry Reason users. Maybe they had good reason (no pun intended) to be angry, but they did a good job of convincing people like me that Reason was neither a good DAW or a stable business...tough background to sell against and it took a no brainer deal to make me take the risk.
I guess that is why I was so presently surprised, I was expecting very little of the DAW as I have read nothing but complaints about it (and Reason in general) and it turned out to be pretty good in my opinion!
Maybe Reason Marketing team should just use the strap line 'we are not as bad as some of our own users say we are'!

^^^ it works simply much better as a rack in other hosts (like BWS with all its modulators) that's the big situation
hope REs gonna look good in 4K too

You're trying to blur the line between DAW & REs (which I love) and management team & marketing, (which I frankly despise by now).SLiC wrote: Fri Jul 16, 2021 7:49 amIronically one of the things that kept me away from Reason for so long was that all I ever read was negative comments from (almost perpetually) angry Reason users. If you were curious about the DAW, why wouldn't you just try the 30 day demo? I did and got hooked for life, but with the product & dev team behind it; not the boss & sales people. I think I bought my license in 2nd day into the demo.
And frankly, if you were going by the comments you wouldn't use any DAW, perhaps with the exception of Reaper
