The thought of Predator 3 doesn't make me reach for paypal to upgrade because Predator 2 stopped me using Predator. That simple. Out of explorer I use the effects more than the synths now.

I have the RE version of Predator which isn't great looking and right now rather tiny.

I remember the original GUI for the VST was nicer looking than this one which to be frank... is rather ugly. So I would hope one that they can reskin it themselves, if they can't already. It's a good attribute one can have in selling synths because you can't please everyone.

The upgrade price will be €49

in a way c/r, but with a twist. so not really c/r, you must manually copy paste codes, via your account, or copy does not work.. simple codes.
and you can deactivate via account, that is great.
so, no probs.
Thanks for the reply. What does that mean exactly. Can I re-Install their stuff when I get a new PC even if the company and their servers are gone ?

if the company and servers are gone, no. you still have to use the site/account, but it is a kind of C/R, but manually.. i don't know if you reinstall, you can get the files created, working, i didn't check how it is stored. without disactivating and reactivating via account.

but i assume, when the company will be gone, that they will change it.. or rob papen, or someone else from the team..

it is not a keyfile... yes a company can disappear, always a risk. but, me like the stuff, so i take the chance, and i have confidance, that when something happens, things will be dealt with considarition for the users. for example, keyfiles, or... whatever..

Sorry, as a burned child in that regard I only by dongled stuff or keyfile stuff anymore, no matter how good the stuff is.

So you're going to deny yourself access to great synths because the company might go out of business and the developer might not be nice enough to ensure the plugins you bought continue to be able to be installed and authorized? Seems overly paranoid to me but whatever works for you.

Considering how long Rob Papen has been in business and how he has always struck me as a really nice guy it never even enters my mind that I won't be able to use the half dozen or so plugins from them I own going into the future.

You know iLok could go out of business as well right? Then if (when)your dongle fails? Nothing is guaranteed to work forever.

I remember I tried the demo years ago. It was already old back then...

How is the sound quality compared to comparable, yet more modern synths?

Post

The Predator imo could use a much better interface.
It is not a match made in heaven.
Decent coder and a respected sound designer, missing someone who can bring everything together in a cool GUI.

He really needs to hire a new GUI person/team. They look like they fit right in with Windows 2000.

Except for the red on black, I actually like the overall appearance, the layout etc.

Kinda warmer and less hi-fi than most wavetable softsynths, but still firmly digital. Vintage digital I guess. It would be nice to get a more characterful, analog sounding filter on top of the ones already available.

So, I went to Predator home page to look the GUI and listen the sound demos. Well, the sound sounds like the GUI looks. Out dated. There is much better options available in these days.

Rob’s latest YouTube live stream talks about a UI overhaul more like their BIT synth plus side chain input for parameter control, multi-envelopes, VST3 and other stuff.

The GUI for the Predator 1 Rack Extension now looks very nice in Reason 12's HD mode.

I don't know what Predator 3 is going to look like, so I'm not going to spend much time with this tedious process in doing a complete re-design concept drawing. But I thought I'd give a bit of a stab to show how it could look better, in my eyes anyway from how it is at present with Predator 2. I've left much of it to your imagination in how the design would be carried across the GUI. A lighter modern GUI design with a monochrome sequencer are the most noticeable differences.
