OSX, you're out of luck for the time being

PC, make sure you download the "full" version, as the lite downloads leave out all the extra plugins.

Use it anyways while you wait. You can save and open the projects and theres no white noise on the demo for 30 days.

About the midi in Tracktion: its gonna be improved with more features better piano roll etc. But it'll never have all the features as something like Sonar or Cubase. The whole point of Tracktion was to thin out all the obscure features that bloat the software and make it difficult to use. So if you need insane midi editing just stick to Sonar, or SX, or Logic. But if you want an uncluttered environment to write music easily then get Tracktion.

I am on PC and I downloaded the full version. The only thing I declined to do was update my rewire as I was afraid it would mess with my use of it in Sonar 3... I may be blind. I'll look again

Also do a plug-in re-scan in the settings tab. I had to do that before it showed up in the plug-in list.

check under settings/plugins that final mix hasn't been added to the ignore list. If it has remove it from the list.

Hit rescan to make sure Tracktion has found all your plugins.

FM should show up in the filters list in the 3rd Party folder.

Toonyfish, make sure in the settings tab, you add the Tracktion plugin folder. For me it wasn't automatically added.

Default location is
C:\Program Files\Tracktion\plugins

Do that and you should see the Final Mix as well as all the others :)

just a comment in regards to the 'is this a good idea or bad idea' issue: one must think of the cost versus benefit of this; cost: well, basically bandwidth, which they have more than enough of already, and "possible" loss of purchases of version 1.x licences, which only Mackie (or Jules) would know, and which is probably NOT at a high point right now due to the release of so many other things right around this time.
Benefit; w/ v2.x coming out soon, this is like free advertising, or next to free. Even if it isn't a huge thing, at least SOME of the people who downloaded this will move up to version two. That has to be more than would have otherwise, because the demo is crippled; a lot of people including me don't bother with crippled demos because it is way too irritating; bursts of noise, and never being able to come back to your work - I personally have got to be able to come back to something a couple of times in order to see if it is really worth it. Let's face it, a lot of people who are currently happy with what they have, and would not have bothered even dl'ing a demo will grab this 'cause it's free. That is exposure that probably would not have happened.
Anyway, I really think it's going to pay off, for very little if any cost to them.
I don't know this for certain, but I truly suspect that products that have a) public beta testing, or b) un-crippled demos (maybe a 20 day limit, but no noise burst, etc.) end up selling more on average. It just makes more sense with a market as full as music-software is.

cheers all.

PS: case in point - I own FL studio, Energy XT, and Podium, not to mention old versions of reason and orion, plus reason adapted and Delta live 3.0.... and then there's Renoise and Skale that I play with sometimes. So, what the hell would I need another sequencer for, right? I STILL DL'D IT, god help me!.. and from what I have seen, I am really impressed. But the demo? held no interest for me.

It mentioned midi editing as a choice and I suddenly remembered how midi editing is implemented in Tracktion and I stopped midsteam and closed the window. LOL. With midi editing like that, I don't even want it for free.
what would a thread about a host be without you f**king troll?
I'm a troll for disliking the piano roll in Tracktion? Be that the truth, then I'll just have to be a troll. But I actually think you fit the shoes a little better than me. All you have to offer is foul mouthed slander and it's not even about the application at hand. I think that qualifies you for the title of troll much more readily than my opinion about Tracktion's piano roll. LOL.

Well then just stick EXT inside Tracktion. :D

Yes, a plug-in that retails for $300 normally (no arguments whether or not it's worth that price tag, only pointing out that it's the asking price) has GOT to have some limitations to it....

Even if your eXT project is COMPLETELY done in eXT, you can still host it in Tracktion and put Finalmix in the finalizing section. ;) Otherwise, it's multi-out and clever wiring to use it on individual eXT tracks. :D
