hi, im looking for tips on wich host i should use for mastering, at the moment i own FLstudio and adobe audition. however i got trouble fine tuning my mixes whit them, audition crashes alot when i try to use my VST effects and FLstudio i got CPU problems whit when using multiple effects.

i was thinking i should do the sequencing in FLstudio and the mastering in audition as i like that format alot and dont got enought CPU to aply all effects in real time, however all the crashes has made it a nightmare and im thinking of selling audition.'

does anyone got any recommendations or tips about what i should do? any other hosts i should try?

i would be very greatfull for any tips :)

i downloaded the free tracktation and tried it,
felt limited in the way i could work whit effects whit it and didnt liked the interface,

ive tried most free hosts allready and havnt found anything that i really liked, i would much rather sell my audtion and spend the bucks on a premium host.
but wich one? :)

Cubase - cut to the chase and get that.

If you can not master a track in audition - or Tarctition - or audition combined with FL (the later version 5 would be worth checking out btw - due out this week, today) you may have problems with what ever you try.

Any sodding host will do. I mastered an album in Tracktion and it's excellent for this purpose, but really any host will do.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

This is yer answer, Araviel! Just spending extra cash on programs is not going to solve anything if you're not learning how to work with them properly.

With the set of tools you have I'd make a mix as good as possible within Fruity (until it couldn't improve anymore) and maybe do some finishing (bit of compression/warming) on the mixdown in Audition.

Mixing & mastering are difficult subjects, because there are no rules to get instant satifactory results. The set of tools (eq filters, compressors, limiters, etc) are not very different from host to host so basically they will give simular results if you use them in a simular.

Please don't give up, but play a lot with what you got. Do some reading on mastering, post some tracks in the music café and the KVRians will give you some feedback on how to improve.

thats what ive done, i make the mixes as good as i could in fruity untill ive reached its limits. fruity is exellent and i can do alot whit it. but i need something to do the final polishing whit and that was what i was thinking i was going to use audition for,
however audition keeps on crashing for me and makes it very difficult to work whit.
audition would be great if it didnt crashed whit my VST plugins,

so i think i need something to replace audition whit,

I always liked mastering in ProTools... Or maybe I'm just used to it. You can get some pretty good flexibility in Cubase/Nuendo as well. All a matter of taste, and what you know best, I guess.

disoriented ain't the same as limited!

I suggest you persevere: I have yet to think of an effects config that I can't implement with a rack filter..

Seriously, for a complete costfree solution you can't beat the new Tracktion deal. FinalMix for my ears is a really useful plugin to shape and compress your mix.
Maybe a bit more of a task to get the levels right, but I guess that's just a matter of getting used to it.

Seriously, I wouldn't even consider using anything else.

Anyway, you've gotta decide what you want to get out of mastering. Hyping a track is one thing, producing an entire CD with a unified sound is another. Your average sequencer is fine for the first option, but not for the second.

But to return to my first point, don't spend days mastering a track. Spend them perfecting the mix, then send it off to get mastered by someone who knows.
