Here are a couple of ideas and techniques I shared with users: :phones:

5 tips and ideas to try with Easy Theremin

Double the Theremin line with a solo string
This is a simple and very effective trick to increase the emotional impact of a melody:
Record a nice melody on the Theremin, and then double this part with your favorite solo string.
According to the playing range, you can use a cello, viola or violin. If you have a legato articulation, you can simply copy/paste the midi notes from the Theremin onto the string track.
You can also transpose all notes one octave up or down for a different sound. That's how I did the melody for the track 'La Parade Héroique' on the product page. I used the viola from Tableau Solo Strings to double the Theremin an octave down.

Get super realistic vibrato
For best results, play and hold a note without vibrato for a second or two before gradually increasing vibrato: per default, vibrato is controlled by aftertouch, so simply play the beginning of a new note with a light touch, and gradually increase pressure on the key. This way, you’ll get a nice human-like vibrato: instant goosebumps :)

Easily fit the Theremin in a track
Sometimes, you’ll have guitars, strings, synths, or voices occupying the mid-range, and it might be tough to find space for the theremin without making it too loud. A simple trick is to send other elements with lots of mid-frequency content into a bus, and use a notch EQ to reduce around 2 to 3dB @ 1 to 2kHz. That should do the trick nicely, and you will be able to find a nice place in your track for the theremin.

Get full control
Usually, it’s super simple to directly record a melody with vibrato changes (aftertouch) and volume swells (mod wheel).
However, for more complex melodies, I prefer to set the mod wheel at around 70% and leave it untouched for the first take, just concentrating on two things: getting the melody right and applying aftertouch vibrato where I want.
After this, I’ll record a second pass doing mod wheel changes only.
Finally, there might be a couple of note transitions where portamento could be shorter or longer. If needed, I’ll link the Glide knob to a controller (right-click on the knob), and do a third pass with a few changes.

Save and rename your favorite presets
It’s a nice idea to resave your own ‘go-to’ theremin so that you can quickly find it again in the future. Save in the 'INSTRUMENTS' folder using the function ‘Save Patch Only’, and choose a different name that you will easily remember.
My current favorite preset is #15 Madame Fatbelly. I love the thick and expressive sound, it’s nicely modern but still somehow timeless. For this preset, I always use the built-in reverb the way it is set (it’s emulating a small room), and simply add a touch of external reverb on top to suit the track.
