Black is an Acqua plug-in bundle that includes two free players focused on gain-staging. The secret behind Black are the featured preamp emulations that provide the authentic analog console sound.

The Free Player consists of a default emulation bank, 'Navy Geranium.'

Each additional 'Volume' includes ten different emulations of vintage and modern console preamps with a total value of over 100K!

What's the idea behind Black?

The basic concept behind BLACK is to recreate in the digital domain the warm and tone-rich feeling that an analog setup can deliver.
Samples and recordings are usually distributed with 0dbFs, while user set processors require an operational level of around -18dbFs.
So as per any analog mixer, before mixing a take, it is crucial to set a correct amount of pre-amplification to your signal since the rest of the chain depends on it.
So, with that said, you should consider Black as the first plug-in suite to add to the channels of your DAW: just set the Input signal level using both the meters and the overflow led.
By increasing the input gain, you will also affect harmonic distortion, just like on a real mixer.
Then you could use the filters to eliminate any rumble and useless content in the top end and then fiddle with the different pre-amplifications until you find the one you like most that add the best coloring to your source.
By taking advantage of the numerous emulations, you will recreate that non-linearity characteristic of those deep and open mixes, just like on a real analog piece of equipment.

The input trim resets to zero everytime you choose a different preamp. Pretty hard to compare preamps this way.
More BPM please

Thank you for your feedback! During the first 30 days from the release, we can add improvements so I forwarded your suggestion to our development team for consideration.

The description is word salad. You should hire someone to rewrite or revise your copy.

Anyway, it's very, very subtle. Would have loved it to be able to really slam/push a channel.
More BPM please

It really needs an output dial.

This is very strange that you are limited to 30 days for updating plugins. Nonsense self-imposed limitations like that make the buggyness of Acustica software make a lot more sense.

It's not a limitation but a general recommendation for the introductory period of any product. As you might know, (or maybe not) versions of our plugins are continuously improving.
