strange enough for a FL fanboy and Sonar freak... :D

not that i need a new sequencing package, but i'm convinced that each host implies new way of working and, therefore, new grounds to break in creativity.

this is why i'm willing to learn how to use tracktion, and why i'm quite happy this is not the usual workflow i'm used to.

thanks for the link, Xavier, and welcome back ! 8)

i really wasn't sure if i still had the demo installed and this was a nice surprise to find it and be able to register and finish a test project i set up long ago .
thanks to mackie and the person who posted it here . :hyper:

I actually had great fun with it- I think I will remain a closet tracktion user.

One question: Is using "/" the only way to cut a clip? Been looking through the posted URLs and the manual and haven't found a better solution yet.

Then: Not being able to resize Tracktion over 2 monitors is a shame. But apart from that, it wouldn't suit my normal way of working anyways. I'm used to having an arrange on my main screen and linked editors or mixers on my secondary one.

This is really exciting news. :hail: :hail: :hail: to Jules and Mackie. I downloaded and activated mine within 10 minutes. Quick and painless. I've been playing with the demo for quite a while now and even composed a little something that was using the white noise burst as a percussive element. :) I've been using Cubase SX for quite a while but I always liked to try out the other stuff to see if I was missing something. I found Tracktion to be very intuitive for what I do and was able to use it within minutes without looking at documentation, quite unlike SX.

Now if I sell my SX 2.2 license to an already interested party and buy Tracktion I can also get energyXT, several other goodies I've been eyeballing, and still go out on a bender for the next few weekends. This gives me an opportunity to really take it for a spin.

I think it's a great move on Mackie's part marketing-wise and probably signals an upcoming release of version 2. I imagine the paid version 1 users will get a nice upgrade price and the NFR users will have to pay the full retail price. In the meantime this swells the ranks of Tracktion users and creates lots of potential v2 buyers. Just look at how quickly this topic went to 13+ pages.

you can define the shortcuts as you like.
(via the 'settings-tab') - e.g. I use 's' for it because I've been used to it from Sonar. :-D

'/' is of course stupid because you need to press two keys at once :?

Well, I know about the shortcuts, maybe I should've asked if there's a dedicated "cutting tool" instead.
Apparently there isn't, which is a bit sad. I often simply don't want to replace the song cursor, only to cut a file.

Jules loathes dedicated mouse-tools like you find them e.g. in Cubase - they are one of the reasons he created Tracktion in the first place

i'm exactly the same... i hate using tools; that means changing to them first!

i do sometimes have issue with the cursor having to be where the screen is... but using CTRL-(number) to set markers is pretty handy... and i do love the way you can cut.

if cursor snapping is on, its a 'snap' (snigger) to cut on beats/bars etc..., and if i want to do a precise cut on an audio clip, i can "double-click-hold" to scrub precisely thru the clip... then i press '/' et voila.

jens- does your keyboard language mean that '/' is 'shifted' then? for us it's just '/' (shift gives us a '?')
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

yeah - it's a shifted seven - aha - it isn't like this with english keyboards!? - now I understand why Jules set it as default  :)

That's most likely because you know tools from Cubase or so.
In Logic I got a modifier key only working temporarily, changing my plain pointer into a scissor or into whatever I like.
Apart from that, this is just an addition, there's an option to "cut at cursor position" as well.
So, with other hosts you got both options, rather than just one.

actually, i've always avoided using cubase (bleh), and my first sequencer was a version of logic. i remember that functionality actually... yes it was nice :)

logic always was my favourite.
