is there any way to stop your computer from reading a cd when you put it in as .cda? this really sucks!!! the computer doesn't do it till you install real player or some kind of burning sowftware. i love to just take a cd put it in and drag and drop the audio file. the problem with extracting the audio file with a program is take some times it puts pops and stuff in the music. its not the cd i've played it on all kinds of other cd players. its probably the cheap cdrom. this .cda feature is driving me so fing crazy. someone please help!!! :help:

You can disable Windows autoplay feature temporarily by holding a shift key while loading the CD. There are other more permanent ways but this is an easy work-around.

XP won't do that.
Autoplay or not has got nothing to do with the way audio CD tracks will show up in explorer.
For 98 there was the rather famous CDFS replacement, allowing you to treat audio CD tracks just as wavefiles. From what I know, there's nothing like this for XP.

I recommend getting an easy to handle ripper which will just grab the tracks and copy them as wavefiles to whatever directory you like. Personally I'm using dbpoweramp, which is free and doing a great job (the best MP3 converter as well):

yeah i have that program. i'll have to try it for ripping.what i've been using is sound forge to rip my music and about 10% of the time it puts pops in. its most likely the cd burner that is doing pops.so if worst comes to worst i'll just have to buy a new one. mabye a plextor. what do you think? Errors on ripped files certainly have to do with cheap CDRs and the likes. When I've been running into those problems on an older machine, I used a tool called "CD Bremse" ("CD brake") which would limit the maximum readout speed, thus avoiding errors.
Right now I got no problems with that, using pretty cheap CD/DVDrs (the main ripping machine has two Aopen drives inside).

Maybe you could find some tool limiting readout speed somewhere ("CD Bremse" is free but german).
