Yeah the creator of Midinous was in the chat for that video and said he liked Nodal a lot, but he wanted things to work in a different way so it was definitely an influence.

Re-Midi 2 is now $19, is it worth it?

In Bitwig 4.01:
If I drop a midi file onto Phrasebox I get two options. The second option is to create a new pattern using the chords being dropped. After I do so then I am able to drag that new phrase into the arrangement timeline in Bitwig. If the midi channels are different on two or more of the the lanes in Phrasebox then Bitwig creates a new track for each channel.

Only if you will wind up using it. It is neat, and could lead me to learn from the great composers while coming up with some nifty recombinations for my music. But I just haven't used it in months.
Doing nothing is only fun when you have something you are supposed to do.

Recommend you try the demo from the developers site, then read the manual from inside the plugin. I did that, and chose to not get it.

It seemed like a cool "idea" to get midi files from public domain or other sources, and drop them into a simple midi editor that lets you freeze, change tempo, filter channels or voices, etc.

However, the choice of midi is idiosyncratic, the quality is uneven, the tempo is always different from your DAW, and it takes some UI twiddling, all of which can kill inspiration.

It's nowhere near as satisfying as repeatedly listening to a composition you like, figuring out the root chord (If you don't know how, see https://www.aimeenolte.com/teaching-mus ... s-to-songs; and for more in-depth, https://www.aimeenolte.com/component/tags/tag/chords), and then adapting a motif. You can record a song section using Audio Hijack (demo version allows short recording) and use it as a reference track. That's what I do cuz it keeps the feeling alive.

Related plugins: 'song learning' software that slows down audio and estimates chords; and Cthulhu presets that include sets of chords from hundreds of individual classical pieces, mostly 4-voice Bach chorales.

Thanks guys, I’ll demo it.

My take is a little different. I use it quite a bit, now that its not as bug ridden as it was a while ago. For me its just like chopping up audio, except I define the instruments not the original musician. I don't use it as a learning tool at all. I have never had a problem keeping it in sync either. I do suggest you demo the app before buying. And I'll also note, I don't use any of the included midi files. I tend to use midi files from songs I grew up listening to. And remember, you can separate out any of the instrument parts you like so you don't have to mess with the entire composition if you don't want to. It does have its limits as far as use. For me its more of a jump off point than a destination. As always, ymmv...

The same time it took Bach, you fool! get to work :hihi:

^^ I thought the point of Remidi was the included midi files. So, you are using it to get happy accidents by rearranging your midi?

The included midi files get you started but I find using some of my stash works even better. Kind of like slicing up regular audio files. I slice up the midi files in Remidi for ideas. And since they are multi-tracked I can cut out certain instruments. Like I almost always cut out the drums tracks. And a lot of times I cut out the bass or the organ or vocal/melody. I'll keep the keys or harmony or whatever... Also, I like that you can change the length of the looped area. This offers quite a bit of variation when slicing even from one midi file.

That's fine if you want to stick with the public domain MIDI files provided, but once you own ReMIDI, you can feed it anything you have. Different grist for the mill.

So the export of MIDI from Phrasebox is only possible, if you imported MIDI to Phrasebox before?

Thank you.
