the drum patch is pure math. I don't ask whether anybody uses midi construction kits or any stuff either ... If you want just go and demand a disqualification.z.prime wrote: Sun Aug 08, 2021 7:15 pmI will reiterate: attempting to emulate waveform playback using sample playback and wavetable oscillators is definitely against the spirit of the rules. I would proffer that an extrapolation of this is: attempting to emulate waveform playback by any means including populating an LFO with points effectively from a sample (or a synthesized sample) is against the spirit of the rules. Sadly, Vital with its voice synthesis contradicts this and I would say should be allowed. Oh, the Ostensibly Sorely Confused rules.

It seems you just want to use this "trick" to accomplish sample playback, and call it something else. I'm just explaining why it does not seem to be in the spirit of the rules and provided a reference to what Richard wrote about a similar use of a synth feature to accomplish sample playback. You are free to disregard what I'm telling you entirely, in fact you're free to just include samples directly in a submission! Go for it. Up to you.] Peter:H [ wrote: Sun Aug 08, 2021 7:44 pmSeems you really don't know what AM is. You're most welcome. And thanks for the reminder of what matters: encouragement and helpfulness.Aro wrote: Sun Aug 08, 2021 7:04 pm @ Elex, thanks for the encouragement to look past what one person thinks, and keep participating even if my technical abilities aren't as advanced as most of everyone here. I'm here to learn. And I'm glad there is a diversity of opinions as to how everyone judges entries.
@PeterH, a patch that nearly says "zombie" is pretty impressive

@PeterH's wicked patches:
Hahaha, that's insane and funny, Peter. I don't think this is breaking the rules at all and shouldn't matter. NoiseMaker can make this work, so.... and it really isn't a recording, but just some mad man having fun. I'm all for it!
For sure this isn't "lazy", hehe. I think, it's clever and should be well within the rules!

Hi,
it has been a while since I participate to the challenge.
I´m glad to have some time to join in the challenge this month again.
Below are two experiments I did with the Tal Noisemaker over the weekend.
As always, I have a few problems with my drums, but I hope, I can solve my problems
during the challenge

Is anyone else here having performance issues with Noisemaker on Linux? If I have the GUI open and play a patch that uses the MSEG, I get tons of xruns and clicks.

I've used Flux Stereo Tool V3 to do that before, you can use width slider to reduce the width. I think people also use iZotope Ozone Imager to do the same thing. There's probably also a way to do it in most DAWS.Aiynzahev wrote: Sat Aug 07, 2021 8:44 pmI also really like the onboard chorus but it's too wide for a lot of what I want, it sounds great in mono though.

Try to increase the ASIO buffer size audio latency to 1024 to reduce glitches and check if gets an improvement. Good luck!monkeygenius wrote: Mon Aug 09, 2021 9:09 am Is anyone else here having performance issues with Noisemaker on Linux? No problem about that, mate.Aiynzahev wrote: Sat Aug 07, 2021 8:26 pm Are we allowed to force a track to mono using the DAW? For example I want to use the onboard reverb but it's too wide or I want the resulting track to be mono. Thanks
You can mix your channels the way fits better for your track, don't worry.
Nice to have you here by the way.
Have a good day!

Thanks, but still no luck. The issue remains. If I were to guess, the problem is that the animation of the MSEG is for some reason causing huge CPU spikes.IrionDaRonin wrote: Mon Aug 09, 2021 1:01 pm Try to increase the ASIO buffer size audio latency to 1024 to reduce glitches and check if gets an improvement. It seems I have hit a wall here, with maybe 12 instances loaded and 6 playing at the same time, Cubase consistently crashes after I pause for the first or second time. CPU load is very low. Not sure if I have the time and energy to troubleshoot this. Shame, it was a fun synth sound-wise. I have a similar issue with VSL sample libraries, but I can work around that by recording them as audio one by one. For this challenge a similar work-around is too time-consuming.
