Just wondering about the differences between the M1 and the Triton vst's? Is there a case for using one over the other?

I see there is a user sample folder for the Triton Extreme, anyone importing their own samples?

The M1 was the first of Korg's romplers. The Triton was quite a few iterations and generations of this tech on down the line, so it's more capable in pretty much every area - bigger samples, more patches, more comprehensive engine and features, more and better FX, more polyphony etc etc.

From memory, the generations of the Korg rompler instruments goes along the lines of:
M-series -> T-series -> 01-series -> X-series -> Trinity -> Triton

(There's a N-series in there somewhere as well, either before or after the X-series, can't remember without going to look it up...)

there are big differences, but the case of using one over the other is only the personal taste, in my opinion
short helping facts:
M1 released 1988 with AI-Synthese and a 4MB ROM
Triton released 1999 with HI-Synthese (16Bit 44.1kHz !) and >32MB
so they sound very different alone through their Synthese and their memory through the number of Megabytes of samples

so best explained by yourself through better download of the demo-version and listen :phones:

Thanks for the replies, was not aware of the evolution of the korg romplers. After playing with both and being a long time M1 fan I think they all sound great and very similar. That may change after I've spent more time with the Tritons.

Where? I see nothing about this in the Triton Extreme interface, in the manual, in the marketing blurb or on disk, and as far as I'm aware, user samples is not (currently at least) a supported feature...

Post

I see a UserSamples folder in /Documents/Korg/Triton but not /Documents/Korg/Triton_Extreme.

But I don't see how to load a user sample, regardless.

Post

Hmm, yeah, I have that too - and it you delete it, both the Triton and the Triton Extreme create it when you load them.

Interesting... perhaps it indicates further features to come..?

Post

wait, really? i don't see that when i load Triton_Extreme. i only have UserSamples folder in my Triton folder.

the mystery deepens.

edit: or did you mean that it creates it in both Triton and Triton_Extreme if you delete it in the Triton folder?

have you not tried adding a few samples to the folder to see if they become available in the synth?

I mean if you delete the one in "Triton", both Triton and Triton Extreme recreate it (in "Triton").

fwiw...

I've always felt that the ROMpler / workstation keyboards and expanders were all very much of their time, much more so than pure synths which have become timeless, with so many synths having a character that is as relevant today as when it they were released decades ago. But workstations? The richness, quality and variety that is available today so massively exceeds the technology of 20 or more years ago, I really struggle to see much value in them beyond nostalgia. But sure, if you need THAT specific sound to evoke an era then only a Triton will do (or whatever ROMpler made it).

True, although there is a price difference between the plug-in and a top end workstation to take into account. Particularly for the bundle.
