That sounds logical.

... but I'm still not sure about audio interface. The rest (monitors, headphones...) is perfect!

Take your time, investigate further, maybe you will find this thread interesting

What a usefull informations! Thanks.

I want to choose an audio interface until the end of sale (this Sunday).

But I'm pretty sure that less inputs is better for me. Also depends on latency and sound of course. Big monitor volume knob is great - because will be used every day and if it will be on top (not on front of AI) it will be perfect!

Sonic State Logic SSL2 looks like a great option (bit expensive, but still in my price range) and also Audient iD4 MKII (which is smaller and space saver).

Post

Go for Audient in that case. Know about handful of people that were looking in that price range and majority of them went for MOTU M2.

One thing to consider: the headphone amp of the Focusrite Solo sucks. Not enough to power anything over, say, 50 Ohm, unless you like mixing at a real low volume. And also check if you need loop back, not all audio interfaces you mention offer this

Post

Oh. MOTU M2 looks great! Price range is close to SSL2, but little higher. But again; it is sold out here, even there's no information when it will be svailable in stock, if even 🥴

Thank you for your time and help. My new set up will be:

JBL LSR305P MKII
IsoAcoustics ISO-155
Superlux HD-681
Audient iD4 MK II

Thanks for this information. Is it only issue of Focusrite Solo? I did not see mentioned that...

What do you mean with "loop back"?

It's the issue with their whole Saffire and Scarlett range.

OK. Strange is that nobody mentioned that on youtube (or I overlooked it). Is this that reason you prefered Behringer AI?

Post

I decided on these and really like them a lot, though I seem to remember getting them on sale for $200 for the pair.

It's not that strange, those guys do that for quick content, mostly they get free device after it and they really don't use those devices, go about listing specs and that's about it.

Prefer Behringer because it's truly bang for the buck in that sub 100 bucks budget department, but yeah, it can properly drive headphones, not really any worse performer or quality product than any of those devices which are also made in China.

I had Focusrite before, in that time it was only decent option, today they live mostly on that hype, same as few other brands, but today there's so much competition, it's truly amazing times for music making.

The Focusrite can drive up to 200 Ohm. If you have issues with the volume on headphones above 50 Ohm you either have a hearing problem or you will get one soon.

But it is true that it is on the weak side. You can use it with, say 250 Ohm Beyerdynamics, but that already stretches it a bit. With the Beyerdynamics I always added an additional headphone amp.

Exactly, in other words, it doesn't drive them properly, period.

The white ones looks much better than ("cheapy") black ones.

If you just want a basic interface, I would recommend a Zoom U22. It's lightweight, quite compact and you can run it off batteries if you need to.

I have the larger U-24 and it's my personal favourite, out of the dozen or so I own or have owned in the past. It is super-quiet and runs at very low latency without any problems.

I also bought some new monitors today, a pair of JBL 104s

Image

Mine are non-Bluetooth versions but they are impressive for their size. I've really enjoyed working with my Eris 3.5s but the JBLs sound punchier in the bottom end and have slightly better clarity in the mid-range, right out of the box. It's not a huge difference but it was immediately noticeable. They have about half the footprint of the Eris speakers, even though they have a bigger (4") driver. They are very slightly taller, though, despite having coaxial drivers.

I'd seen them in a shop a couple of months ago and thought about buying them then, but decided not to, mostly because I thought they'd be too big for my space. After seeing this thread yesterday, I ended up reading a few reviews of the 104's that were all super-positive so I went and grabbed a pair this morning. So thanks to whoever resurrected this thread!
