Well, you do have a point that Reason - when used to its full potential - expects people to understand the signal flow, audio concepts and welcomes real-life hardware experience.

But at the same time you don't have to understand any of it if you are - like that guy claimed to be - "just" a musican. In that case you just drop instruments, sounds and FX on a track, arm recording and off you go. And even when we're talking about sidechianing, I'd argue that Reason's way should be easier for "just" a musician to understand, because it involves actualy chaining a signal from one place to another (it's in the name, for God's sakes!) to trigger a compressor. I mean ins/outs & cables are not a foreign concept, unless all one ever did is played flute in the middle of the forest... The way most DAWs totally abstract that via drop-down menus is only intuitive to computer geeks.

In the end such a discussion is obviously pointless, as there will be fans of both approaches and anyone can learn the other in couple of minutes. It's just a matter of wanting to understand the principle and the general paradigm of the DAW and deciding whether it's for you or not.

Yes, I agree that complex stuff may tend to get messy with Reason - due to its hardware-like paradigm.

But the traditional stuff traditional musicians typically use and do is very simple to achieve in Reason - due to its hardware-like paradigm - which is the exact opposite of what that dude claimed.

I would say Reason is about the easiest DAW I have ever used. WYSIWYG!
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S88MK3, S1, BWS, Live + PUSH 3, Osmose, RedShift 6 Pro3, Tempera, Syntakt, Digitone II, OP1-F, OPXY, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

I am puzzled by all you guys here pushing Reason when it has pretty much gone subscription only.

So are we at the point where subscription has become a perfectly acceptable option ?

For me, I would never go subscription for any DAW, I would have to find another way. But putting me aside, are we at a tipping point for the majority to accept it ?

You can still buy Reason exactly as before, subscription is just an option.

I don't accept the new Rent to use or that you always have to be online to use something.
Did a reinstall of windows and went back to Sonar X3 Producer which only needs two serial numbers,1 on install and 1 the first time you open it to verify which version you own and all is done offline.

Even the free Sonar demands regulary online checks or it will loose authorization.

This is incorrect.

So I typed "Reason" into Google. Clicked on Reason and I all I get is a subscription page.

Yes, I am sure if I click on enough stuff I will eventually find a way to purchase Reason in the old fashioned way, but they are playing hard to get. The writing is on the wall. Like many people I took the offer a year or so ago to download Reason Lite, and they got my email address. Since then every offer is subscription. the latest was £3 for 3 months subscription, and I guess you have to add a credit card to get that ?

I have two hats channels coming from Redrum ,open and closed.

I routed them to seperate mix channels.

But how do I route these two channels to one mix channel instead of having the two as they are making the same sound and it is pointless having them on seperate channels.

I suppose I have to use a bus?

I tried the audio/splitter but my mind went into overload and I could not figure it out after 10 mins of staring at the screen.

i have Cl hats Channel 8 Redrum output going to the audio Splitter input 1 and Op Hats Channel 9 Redrum output going to audio Splitter input 2 and a cable going from Splitter 1 output to a Mix track input.

But I get no sound.

The routing stuff has my mind in a mash.

After another 15 minutes of staring at the screen,I give up.

I think I will just make a bus track but I'm guessing in Reason that will be much harder to do than Reaper?

Reaper blows Reason away as far as routing goes.

I mean, you shouldn't be surprised that the devs would prefer you subscribe - it's a new service/product, but they don't make it difficult to buy a traditional perpetual license at all. I literally just scrolled down the same page and see a link to buy in the FAQ:

Ok, my mistake, it is there at the bottom.

But why not have it at the top where it belongs ? Its a bit like supermarkets that make you walk right to the back to get a pint of milk so that you buy something else along the way.

This should be quite simple, especially since you can just follow the cable flow…

I’m assuming that you mean Spider Audio merger/splitter. You’ll use the merger half, on the left hand side. Route one signal into the upper left jack (if it’s a mono hi hat), and the second signal to the next jack to its right. These will now be merged. Use the output where the arrow points to.

That’s it. Is this not what you’ve been doing?

No need to use anything like a bus track.

You could also NOT use the separate outs for the hihats, just use the main outs for those and use separates for everything else.

OR you can use one of the effect sends. Just crank up the level on send 1 for the hihats, then use that send output in the back.

OR route the two hihat outputs into left and right inputs of the stereo mix channel, and reduce the stereo spread on that channel to full mono.

Because it's a relatively new product service that they are actively promoting, and they'd obviously prefer people to subscribe. Not a big deal, IMHO.
