I have a Focusrite Scarlett 214, 2nd gen. I also use Studio One. It's fine, especially since I'm just a hobbyist. But sometimes I get frustrated by latency issues when recording my electric guitar through an amp sim. So I'm exploring the idea of a better interface with regards to latency. More inputs is always nice, but it's not my main concern.

The two options I'm looking at are the Presonus Quantum 2626 and the UA Apollo Twin Mk2. The Quantum is $650 and the US is either $900 or $1100 (Heritage Edition, which comes with more UA plugins).

It looks like either interface would solve my latency issues. Is the UA worth the extra money?

If low latency also for playback and native plugins is important to you, then UA is a bad idea. While you can track with low latency through the UA plugins in the console, the latency of the driver is nowhere near my RME (usb2) interface.

If your on windows go for the quantum 2626...make sure you have a thunderbolt 3 connection...people have have had trouble trying to use a thunderbolt 2 with a convertor. The quantum does not work like a regular sound card and only works through a daw or standalone music app.So keep your scarlett connected for general sounds...youtube ect. I usually set my buffers to 64 and get 1.5ms latency in amps like amplitube 5, amplifikation 360, neural dsp amps

Thanks for the specific information - 1.5 ms latency would be great!

I would think the UA would be similar?

Antelope. That’s the way to go on Windows. I had a Discrete 8 synergy core that was rock solid and moved down to a Synergy Q that is TB3 and again rock solid. Their TB drivers are top notch. Right up their with RME as long as you are running thunderbolt.

Just to clarify as well I’ve had a couple other TB interfaces running on Windows. A focusrite Clarette 4 pre and then a Presonus Quantum 2 and neither are comparable to the Antelopes. Clarette wasn’t good for low latency stability and the presonus was glitchy.
