Are DAWs Today Just Boring ?

Reaper is now giving me the shits.
I made markers for each wav item and want to render them.
I open the render region marker matrix and all the tracks are listed there but I dn't know how to create regions from markers.
The matrix has 0 regions even though all the marked tracks are listed.
Why oh Why can't I just add this marker tracks to a region list or something?
ihave done this countless times before but always end up trying to scour through you tube or looking on a forum again.
Drives me nuts.
See how unintuitive today's DAWS are.
No simple right clicking the marker and "make region from marker" listed.
You have to go through a mountain of options to try to find it like all DAWS.
Imagine the way humans walked with a DAW mindset lmaoooooooo.
Be like John Cleese.
Turning Reaper off before I have a brain aneurysm.
P.S. FINALLLYYY YAAY,THE CAT LIVES!!!!!
I was in the right area ,the action list,I put in "make regions from markers" but it came up empty.
I then found out it is "create regions from markers"

I have a really hard time to follow your descriptions on what on earth you are trying to achieve but it sounds all overly convoluted to me... like over in the Reason thread where you go to insane lengths to achieve something that would normally only be one or two clicks...
in the Reason thread it seemed to me as if for some reason you have a hard time to get familiar with its fundamental paradigm, which of course makes it much more likely that you end up with complex solutions to simple problems (i.e. you kind of get stuff done, just not neccessarily in the way the developers envisioned it).

I think this applies to a lot of situations. When I am sussing out new software one of the biggest frustration is expecting it to work like the software I am most familiar. Unlearning what you know sometimes takes more effort than doing something novel.jens wrote: Wed Aug 18, 2021 7:20 am it much more likely that you end up with complex solutions to simple problems (i.e. you kind of get stuff done, just not neccessarily in the way the developers envisioned it).

For what specific reason did you create markers to render something?

Yes, I think this is a valid assessment - been there, done that.Scotty wrote: Wed Aug 18, 2021 7:39 amI think this applies to a lot of situations. I converted an old vinyl record.jens wrote: Wed Aug 18, 2021 9:33 am For what specific reason did you create markers to render something?
I put markers to each track and titled each marker.
I created regions from the markers.
I rendered using the Marker/region manager dialog.
My tracks all had only one name.
I then tried Wildcards.
I used region names as a wildcard entry.
My files only rendered by numbers 01,02 etc.
I tried track numbers and tracks as Wildcards
Still the same problem but this time Master 01 Master 02 etc.
WHY are DAWS so HARD for SIMPLE TASKS?
REAPER doing my brain in atm.
I will just render the old fashioned way I think.
WILDCARDS SUCK! (Mike Patton voice).

Why did you not simply time-select a song, hit the render shortcut, set your render preferences, quickly name the song, then render, time-select the next song, hit the render-shortcut (leave the preferences as they are), name the song, render... and so forth? That could be done in less time than it must have taken you to make that post above. All additional steps just make it more complicated and also more likely that you end up screwing up somehow, no?
It's similar to your Reason problem, where all you wanted to do was to control the bass-guitar compression by sidechaining the comp from the kick-drum, which would literally just mean to simply drag a single cable in the Rack, and instead you apparently created several additional mixer-channels which you then tried to manually route in I don't-know-which-sort-of-strange-ways and completely messed it all up in the process. You can't blame the software for that, you know?
I think in all the time you spent here complaining that the software is weird and not user-friendly and not made for musicians yadda yadda, you could have watched a couple of short videos instead or RTFM and you'd be on your way in no time.

Yeah,I am going to do it manually.
Wildcards are a complete waste of time.
And I now have figured out side chaining so all good on that front Jens.
Yes Time Selections will be the safe option.
I clicked the regions and it set up each selction to be looped with the locators and I used the Selected regions option but this time each track I rendered was the first track even though I selected different tracks to be looped by the locators.
I don't get the rendering dialogs in Reaper at all.
I will just use time selection, the others are too confusing.

But did you manage to figure out sidechaining in Reason without manually creating a single additional mixer-channel (which is absolutely not required), or did you finally manage to get your excessively convoluted way of aiming to do it working, after spending hours on trying to do it how it's not normally done?
Wildcards are not useless at all, it's just that they are not needed for what you aimed to do. It's a toolbox - you can use the right tool for a certain task, or you can pick a wrong tool and end up getting it finished somehow (after spending a lot more time and energy on it than would be neccessary had you picked the right tool instead) and complain how bad the tool is.

For now simply ignore the options you don't need for the job at hand.

Well I was using the splitter wrongly by putting cables intoi the left instead of the middle and right.jens wrote: Wed Aug 18, 2021 10:41 am But did you manage to figure out sidechaining in Reason without manually creating a single additional mixer-channel (which is absolutely not required), or did you finally manage to get your excessively convoluted way of aiming to do it working, after spending hours on trying to do it how it's not normally done?

I thought the left sockets were ins.
Anyway I will try multi side chain with the splitter soon.
And in the simple way with just going straight into a SSL track compressor ,I was using the main outs, not the PARALLEL OUTS from Redrum.

Do you have by any chance the option "link loop points to time selection" unticked?Smasha wrote: Wed Aug 18, 2021 10:34 am I clicked the regions and it set up each selction to be looped with the locators and I used the Selected regions option but this time each track I rendered was the first track even though I selected different tracks to be looped by the locators.
Either way I can't really follow your description above perfectly, which sounds overly complicated to me.

For a simple sidechain the Splitter is in no way required at all. Again, you are overcomplicating things.Smasha wrote: Wed Aug 18, 2021 10:46 am Well I was using the splitter wrongly by putting cables intoi the left instead of the middle and right.

Once you want to sidechain multiple compressors from the same control signal, you could look into using the splitter. That way you would get familiar with additional features step by step whenever you really need them.

This is exactly the same as in the physical world. Once you disconnect the main out of a source from its path towards the output, it'll be silent*. And a compressor's sidechain-input is no path towards the output.Smasha wrote: Wed Aug 18, 2021 10:46 am And in the simple way with just going straight into a SSL track compressor ,I was using the main outs, not the PARALLEL OUTS from Redrum.
*that's an over-simplification of course, but nonetheless valid here
