agree - Metasynth is one of those things I lusted after 20 years ago but for the asking price its time has passed for metoitoi wrote: Tue Jul 13, 2021 8:41 pm I'm acquainted with Metasynth, used it a bit ~14 years ago. I vote with two hands for more audio tools but reality is that it's a very niche product, interface not intuitive, cryptic and dated (literally from the 90s) - didn't change much since then. Was unique in 2000s but today not so much, so Metasynth will always be a niche product especially with those ridiculous prices. I don't see where and how it gets enough user-base to finance the development.
We'v got Cycle, Virtual ANS, http://www.klingbeil.com/spear/Spear and Fragment too.
Hooray: Metasynth is coming for Windows

Since us KVR members are the computer music influencers there should be a way for these developers to offer us a KVR members discount or a thread participant discount. All those in favor say Yea!

Blech! All the demos I listened to sound very brittle in the top and and lacking in bottom end. Very harsh, digital kind of sound, like a bad, cheap digital synth from the 90s.

See the Metasynth Blog for details, but the whole project has taken more time than expected:

Will Xx CTX 1.0 ever be available for Windows?
Or is it part of MetaSynth and thus will be available for PC?

Xx is separate from MetaSynth, but Xx CTX for Mac is not yet available so Xx for Windows would be sometime after MS for Windows.....Kalamata Kid wrote: Thu Aug 19, 2021 4:47 am Will Xx CTX 1.0 ever be available for Windows?

Exactly my feelings. The paradigm is far from unique these days and looking at the UIfairlyclose wrote: Wed Jul 14, 2021 1:40 amagree - Metasynth is one of those things I lusted after 20 years ago but for the asking price its time has passed for metoitoi wrote: Tue Jul 13, 2021 8:41 pm I'm acquainted with Metasynth, used it a bit ~14 years ago. Also, I have had nothing but negative experiences with developers that tried to do a windows version 'on the side'. My feeling is that this is even more true watching mac developers struggle with recent MacOS updates that seem to have broken just about everything even in their native environment and required extensive development work just to get them running again. That's not a a business environment where a brand new windows spin-off would thrive. If windows wasn't on a dev's map by design, it will never really work. That's especially true since here they seem to be paying a third-party dev to do the work. So as much as I would like to see Metasynth on windows (and I've been waiting for 20 years myself), I don't feel this will be a successful - or if so, a satisfying - port.

so finish my sentence: ... it's still not an icon of intuitive design, while image editors (which can be used with Harmor and Photosounder) have made great leaps.wasi wrote: Thu Aug 19, 2021 8:30 am Exactly my feelings. The paradigm is far from unique these days and looking at the UI
I'm drawing my conclusions from this post:
https://uisoftware.com/2021/02/23/7-the-road-ahead-ii/
On the Apple front, it’s really challenging. As a customer I can get a support call back in minutes, as a developer I can pay $50 for code level support ticket and not hear back form them in months, only to receive a form letter message that ignores the details laid out in the bug. I’ve gotten account managers involved who say they understand and will personally see this gets resolved then fall silent never to be heard from again. The developer website is a mess with poor navigation. Just today I logged in and found it was changed with no clear way to get to any of our cases!
Before you say it, yes we did start a third party Windows port of the Application Framework for all the products. A fair % of our resources went into that but did not result in something we could move forward with at the time. Pause. As 2021 progresses, I’ll continue to explore funding options which meet our expectations of independence, partnership, and financial viability. It will be a test of how much the community wants to support it. Moving to a GPU wild wild west will bring it’s own challenges.

it sounds like U&I have high standards for a Windows port, while recognising the difficulty and the cost.
If existing software (Photosounder etc.) gets you close enough, that may be good news all around!

Actually it sounds like they want it all funded before hand, unfortunately that is not the niche world they exist in, this is not a headline product that will take the entire music making scene by storm and will always remain niche.
And here is a newsflash for anybody in 2021, if you are struggling to make a cross platform piece of software, then you are doing it wrong (again, in this case, niche is not only the software but obviously the way they develop too) this is not the old days of hitting hardware directly, everything is abstracted, not only does that not bode well for them creating a Windows port, but it does not bode well for them supporting newer MacOS versions moving forward either.

By now, and if they did went through the burden of rewrite the application to accomodate macOS changes, they should have done that in a way to accomodate cross-platform too. I don't know if the specifics of their code prevent that, but I'm sure there are libraries to graphic applications that co-exist in macOS and Windows. The same applies to audio.
If they think it doesn't pay, maybe they should approach a bigger player and kas for a partnership. Spectralayers, for example, started as an independent applcation, then moved to Magix, and is now with Steinberg. Look at what they achieved after they did that move.
They are french. UVI is also french, and have good experience with cross-platform code and complex instruments. The same applies to Arturia. I leave here the idea, to whom it may concern.
