Must be in the water up here.
I'm exactly the same.
I've entered maybe 6 competitions and posted another handful of tracks, but that's about it. I haven't "finished" a track in months, for all the reasons wr mentioned (and some other ones).
I have around 200 unfinished tracks. Maybe I should arrange them by tempo and merge them together  :hihi:

I liked the couple of tracks I've heard by you scuzzphut - work harder ya bugger... :x :)

like mystahr for example, bastard never comments on anybodys tracks............. :hihi:

seriously though, i agree normal. i've always had the rule (for myself) to review more music than i post.

Yep, so do I. Considering I only post a tune every 6 weeks or so that shouldn't be hard. But I don't bother commenting on tunes in styles I have no clue about, eg. indie. Then again, I prolly don't listen to them either. :P

No, I'm always gentle with you, cause I know the truth would make you stop producing music

:hihi:

Post

 fair enough.

TO be honest, I appreciate the criticism from you cos I think we're on a similar wavelength musically and you do produce some top stuff that's waaay better than mine....

how weird. that didn't even sound sarcastic and there was no :P in your post. in that case... thanks

Does that mean I have to comment on your last tune now :D

no I meant it. a rare moment of sincerity, I was listening to one of yours last night (can't remember the title right now) - but it features in my best of KvR playlist, so there :P

Regarding my last one, up to you really, it kind of died a death so that's feedback enough.

Right now I have some nice breaks built up for my next track, but I keep deleting all the basslines and pads etc cos it all sounds too close to my other stuff. So kind of a creative block as a result of trying to do things differently

Do i write and produce music ? Yes

Have i ever posted a track on kvr? no

Have i ever listened to someone else,s track on kvr ? no

That,s why i haven,t posted any of my own....

I access the net and hence kvr almost exclusively at work and unfortunately the nature of my job prohibits me listening to music whilst working.

effectively all of my non work time is spent making music or spending enough time with my girlfriend to delay her leaving me for someone who isn,t a one track minded song writing workaholic, hence i seldom if ever use the net at home hence i haven,t listened to anyone,s tracks......

and i think it would be very selfish of me to inflict my music on the community and expect feedback/encouragement etc.without first encouraging those around me and providing them with the potential for growth ...which i can,t really do without listening ......

Anyway i love kvr and hang out here for the info and tips in addition to the opportunity to help others out when i can 8) .....and to have a laugh.... especially at people like clueless and his obsession with marsupial men and the music of lurlene lumpkin

I post my stuff semi-regularly in the Cafe. I tend to be one of the noisescape makers that either wards off or angers others.

I try to comment on the tracks of others as often as possible, and certainly more than I post my own tracks. And I like all sorts of different kinds of music beyond the noise bollocks, so I'd be happy to see more hip hop or pop songs. Actually one of my recent favourites in the Cafe was Jeez's Cuz I Like You, which was as pop as they come.

I think a thing like the Cafe only succeeds with as much diversity and activity as possible. That's the best way for musicians to learn from each other, by just offering lots of different points of view. I don't mind people just posting tracks without commenting on others, but it's definitely better when they do participate more. I assume we're all here to learn or build an audience, so that's a good place to start.

I don't like it when people post for feedback and then get their backs up when the feedback isn't just slavering praise. Harsh, rude feedback should be overlooked, but if you didn't want to hear from the people who didn't like your song, you shouldn't post. At the very least, I think people should give an indication of how much criticism they can handle in their initial post. Will help the rest of us know whether to just say 'Good job' or something more substantial.

I don't think there is a cabal of regulars shutting others out, either. Sometimes replies are low because people are just basically stumped as to what to say about the music (I get that a lot), but people soliciting feedback should make sure that they solicit. Bump your thread, beg for feedback, cross-post your thread link in relevant threads, whatever it takes to get people to tell you that you suck. An absence of comments isn't necessarily derision, just means no one has commented yet. Take it as a lesson learned and try to improve your strategy for the next time.

Cheers,
Steve

I post tracks.. rarely.. but when I do typically I get few/no comments, which is no surprise as there's a lot of stuff out there far better than my current efforts. I find that entering the monthly contest produces a better critique, and I take those comments and apply them to my "non-contest" tracks. So far I've avoided being slagged by anyone :P though I imagine that might change now! :-o Besides, I know I suck, so nobody bothers telling me that I guess. :hihi:

I try to comment where I feel qualified to, I don't like to comment on tracks in a genre I don't like because I feel that I'm predisposed to *not* like it and I can't trust myself at that point. Not to mention that I'd be listening all day and not get any work done, and if I don't work how can I feed my gear addiction?
